Yeah I think the hinge needed bending a bit, didn’t it?
It’s a lovely job now, but probably just replacing the rose joint thingy underneath the pedal would’ve sorted out the problems of wobbliness; I think Butty does do just that bit as well as the whole kit.

You can’t go wrong investing in any part of the vehicle that you interface with whilst driving.

A clean snicky gearshift, a smooth clutch pedal, a progressive accelerator pedal and a steering box without loads of free play add hugely to the driving experience.

Even a nice smooth tick over helps.

Otherwise driving becomes a juggling act that requires max concentration and detracts from the enjoyment.

Other bits may fall off as I go along but it feels nice to drive and makes me smile ;)

I am pleased to note that my low cost replacement for the L shaped bit of wire seems to work. Two M4 rose joints, one with male ,one female thread.

Some M4 bolts and washers, a rectangle of steel with a tab one end and a hole in the other that fits in the slot in the pedal. Washers and a reducer from 5.5 mm to 4mm.

    No clattering or jamming.

    Brilliant.
£8 parts plus hacksaw and file and hammer time.

  5. I’m glad to report I have at last had time to replace the pedal hinge.
(Turned out to be simple as the floor was sound, but I had been putting it off in case I needed emergency welding!)
At the moment I’ve bolted it to the floor. There was thankfully plenty of shiny metal where I drilled the holes.
    Here’s the question:
Do I need to get it welded on or should bolts hold it (5mm I think) if I lock them on with a couple of nuts each.
Obviously it needs to take quite a hammering!
    Cheers!

Bolt it on , use penny washers on the outside to help spread the load. Make sure the holes are painted and things are sealed so water cant creep between the metal surfaces. A squidge of underseal between the washer and the floor and then a smear over the underside.

  8. Thanks that sounds straight forward enough.

  9. Have you got a photo of it Mike ,it sounds like a worthwhile fix .

    Accelerator pedal linkage.

Small fishplate with a little 90 degree tag (goes into the slot) at the top to stop the bolt sliding in the slot in the pedal.

At the bottom a 4mm to 6mm plastic bushing in the hole in the end of the accelerator arm. 4mm bolts, nuts , loctite.

The nut, washer, nut at the top provides a place for the pedal return spring to engage.

  11. Thanks Mike, I'll have a go at that.
