Accelerator pedal fitting broken

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Carryoncampers, Mar 5, 2019.

  1. Hello all!
Heard a little snap today and it was one of the two little tubes welded into the floor that you attach the pedal to with a spindle.
It’s a bit risky because when the second one breaks it is totally kaput.
    Looks like a clean break.
Can you weld such a small thing or has the whole thing got to be replaced?
Can you buy replacements? I haven’t found one yet.

    Oh it’s a 74 bay.

    Any help please.

    Cheers.

  4. Indeed they are. Thanks both.
So it looks like I can grind off the old one that was welded and drill some holes and bolt on the new one.
Which no doubt is easier said than done!

The fun starts when you find the 5 layers of rotting steel under the pedal hinge.
Dont forget to do it up very securely then seal underneath or the pedal will fall off again.

  6. i cut the tabs of mine and fitted a door hinge a small one worked perfect

  7. Yes and once I’ve stripped it down and find the rust I can’t drive it to the friendly welder! I will have a good stab around with a screwdriver before I start any surgery!

  8. This ^^^
A quick and easy fix - better than original to be honest

  9. ill send ye a hinge if you want far better job

  10. put it on your techenders list under 'jobs for lisa' :D
I've been looking at the butty's bits kit and reading threads about making my own as i'm sure i don't get enough oomph.

  11. Betty's butt?

  12. Bring a welder and I'll give you some ooomph...

  13. Don't think Techenders would be Mick's kind of thing :p

I do reckon mine struggles with the twin carbs - more springs to pull with a soggy throttle.

The buttys bits kit is fab. Definitely worth it.... no wobbly pedal any more

  15. they do look good and with great reviews but i'm trying to budget/ prioritise at the moment (welding!) so was looking for cheapy fixes too

  16. I've been doing the same, budgeting for things I need before things I want! I think I've just got to the point of justifying the buttys bits linkage after a deal with my powder coater freed up the pennies! I am much excite.

  17. B&Q hinges are a couple of quid , get mick to have a look and check the mechanism is sound , side to side play on the hinge means you`ll need to sort that out before looking at anything else . If it`s only the pedal hinge thats gone then weld in a B&Q cheapy , anything else then bite the bullet and go for a full Buttys Bits jobbie - they`re supposed to be good , fitted one for @scrooge95 last techenders which was great but if i remember her pedal hinge needed sorting out to make it a `proper job`.

Concentrate on getting the underneath and sills sorted first , your throttle still works so put it on `the list` for now ...

  18. ah, yes there is side to side play too :(

I know, you're right  i think while i can't be at the workshop i'm distracting myself with planning other jobs - particularly now i've had a good look underneath and can finally see what everything does (or should do) :)

But it wont work for long if half the hinge has rusted away – a proper replacement is about the price of a pint (depending on where you live), I’d buy a new one.
Forget that, you weren't replying to who I thought you were.:)
