About to clean and rebuild my webers

  1. Comparing the new needle valve and seat from the rebuild kit to the original. The new seat has a hole running laterally through it in the base - is this right? Keen to use a new valve and seat but want to check. Kit came from eurocarb where I got the carbs from.

  2. Update. Both carbs cleaned and rebuilt using the eurocarb kits - they were really filthy and had a lot of crud inside. Both back on the manifolds with new gaskets - I used each carb to redial in the idle adjustment so they should be pretty much the same as then they came off. I noticed one of my fuel lines is a little cracked so will order some new line and replace before refitting the air filters and thrill linkage I have a question though.

As I checked all of the balance pipes and vacum pipes I thought I'd have a quick look at the brake servo and noticed the hose coming off of it that usually goes to under the wheel tub had come loose and was hanging down (it's done this before) - would this have had an effect/acted as a source of an air leak? I always thought it was a breather and was venting under the tub anyway (just away from the crud).

  3. Your right it is just a breather for the servo.

Make sure the vent pipe is away from any ingress of water. I drilled a hole under the seat near the brake fluid reservoir to vent mine. Water in a servo is a killer.

The servo breather hose should go into the hole in the top of the box section in the double skinned part of the dog leg outer wheel arch.

  6. Yep - am aware of where it's supposed to go. Fitted it back on, just wondered if it could be causing a leak. I will await new fuel line, fit then update later.

It’s supposed to leak – it’s a breather – the tube and hose on the other side of the servo however…

Totally agree but mine was vented there and some how the servo kept filling with water. I lost two servos to this problem (original and replacement) hence the choice to relocate. The cost of a servo is no joke and I wasn't taking any more chances believing the double skin section must be suspect.

  9. Update. Took a while as I was away with the lads on the annual golf shindig. Carbs back in the bus this morning, replacement fuel lines in (one of the old ones was leaking so pleased that I did this). Reset all of the throttle linkage and fired her up. She's idling away on the drive nicely whereas before she kept cutting out unless I revved it up. This is progress in my eyes and does seem to suggest that crudded up carbs could have been the root cause. I don't want to take her out for a spin yet as I still don't have a fuel filter in place and I don't want a load of carp going through my freshly cleaned carbs. Tomorrow I will run a new fuel line from the pump to the pressure regulator and fit a fuel filter at the same time and then do some more testing. Needless to say I am very happy my first attempt at stripping and rebuilding the carbs has not caused an immediately obvious cock up!
