  3. Thanks James, I hope I am as lucky though that is some time off as I want to get the box painted before I add bits. My garage/paint booth is a bit restricted on height. The grey on blue looks brilliant.

It’s certainly been easier putting the bare beam back in. Chuffed with the coiour combo! Picking up my epoxy and high build primer tonight!

A fruitful weekend saw most of the running gear make it back onto the van.

Front Steering and suspension all on, including the shiny new Koni shocks:

Rear brakes all re-assembled. These are the shoes and backing plates that came off the van when I started the resto; they cleaned up really nicely and have plenty of use left in them:

And fitted the drums too, ready to go back down onto wheels:

I borrowed a wheel from Wayne in the unit next to me to pull the hubs into the drums and discs. Even putting one wheel on it makes it seem so much more ‘van like’, rather than just a lump of metal:

Are those the shocks made of cake? @JamesLey :)

Shock cake idea was abandoned in favour of a double tier lemon cake! Delicious

A truly momentous day for Iris. Back on her wheels for the first time in 2.5 years and out into the yard!!!

Wayne in the unit next to me also got his back on wheels today so we had to get a side by side. The difference in height is hilarious!

A huge thank you to @Mattlad for donating the wheels, and @paneuropaul for going out of his way (once again) for me to pick them up for Bristol. True TLB karma there.

  15. Hi James looking for some info please, I have the same early runners welded to my ‘73 van with the early seats but the adjustable part that is fixed to the seat (don’t know the official name for this part) I think is of the later model, do you have a picture of what is on the bottom of your drivers seat? Mine fits into the existing runners but cannot be locked in position. Thanks

Hi. Unfortunately I don’t have a pic of our seats and can’t find one online anywhere. There are a set of hinged teeth either side of the seat with a handle on one side that pivots them inward. You pull the handle to get the seat into the runners and adjust them, then when In position release the handle and the teeth lock into the corresponding teeth in the runners. Do you have a picture of your seats?

  18. I don’t have any pics either and the van is at my dads 70 miles away, shared project! Reading up more on another thread it appears mine being a 73 model has some parts from the prototype bay even though it’s classed as a late so it is the prototype bay runners welded in and the seat is a late bay so it fits in the runners but won’t lock in position, guessing the seat was changed out over the years. Easy fix is cut out and weld in new ones but since the front of the van is now complete I don’t want to start more of this so only options I think have is either find an prototype bay base and try to swap them or come up with a hybrid was of making the seat lock and still be adjustable! Some headscratching awaits!!

The donor tub i fitted was off a later van so sounds like your seats would need runners like these to fit properly.

Best bet is probably to get some early seats as you say. @davidoft probably has some stashed under his bed.
