  1. My old Auntie is 92 and is going to give up the car, its nothing special. A 2006 Ford Ka Collection, full Ford main dealer service and MOT every year, Silver all color coded. Its always garaged and the boiler is in the garage so not damp, its done less than 5k miles. She is going to ask Ford what they will give her for it. She traded her old mini in to them for it and they cave her about £600 and it had similar mileage :-(

Have you put the details in " we buy any car " ?
If it's as good s you say, that will give you a starting point .
Was looking for one for my son last year and couldn't find one without lots of rust.

Ideal 1st car for someone doing their test. 5k on it, £1400

I imagine it could be worth double the £600. It's all about mileage as you know Mick!

It's difficult with an old (er) vehicle, just sold a newer style KA 13 plate 28k miles for £2500 which is bottom book price.

That's quite right, but I think, seeing as older Fords are getting quite collectable, a lower mileage one would be quite desirable. Obviously it's only worth what someone is willing to pay, but I think they're like old dubs now and fetching silly money.

  7. It’s a 12 year old KA , owned by a 92 year old .. I think the low mileage will add value but 92 year olds aren’t the most careful or mechanically minded drivers ... my friends late mother had a similar low mileage car and ever time she took it out she hit or scraped something, couldn’t remember how or where she parked it ...bless her

Emissions can be an issue, I was chatting to my MoT guy as he tested a beautiful early Fiesta ..... one owner, regularly serviced etc. ..... but he was struggling to get it through the emissions part of the MoT as it only did short trips to shops and engines need a regular good long blast to keep them clean, emission wise.

  9. If its up for sale then let me know some details Mick. Just scrapped mine and could do with a small runaround to be honest that i can pass on to eldest daughter who should hopefully pass her test later in the year. Sounds ideal! Will up the anti on any likely dealer offer but not too silly. Let me know anyway. PM is best if its a goer. Looking to get something over the next week to 10 days if that fits in with your plans. All the best!

  11. I think her insurance runs out in March so that is the kind of time scale I think,

It’s a KA! It’s not a mk1 escort! It’s not worth as much as you think. Low mileage is ok, but not always right. That’s a lot of sitting around! And if you give it beans, you’ll get leeks! (Old garage expression).

  18. Mother in law drives a lovely Polo about 4 years old- had it from brand new, but "people keep hitting it with shopping trolleys"........

It looks like she's driven through Kabul, via Tripoli and Baghdad, on her way to and from East Grinstead Sainsbury's.
