WANTED Westfalia sliding door inner handle

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by PabloDiablo, Apr 10, 2013.

  1. The other half snapped off the plastic inner door handle last week when closing it. I ordered what I thought was the right part from JK but when it arrived it has a slightly different fitting meaning that whilst it will fit the handle which operates the sliding door mechanism it doesn't fit the one that's used to pull the door closed. I can probably modify the handle (or the bit screwed onto the door) to fit, but wondered if anyone had an original handle for sale...? Pic shows what I'm blathering on about. image.jpg

  2. looks nowt like mine at all!

That handle is the correct one. You'll find that head with the sticky out bits should come off. I can see the square part behind it. Looks like you have to wiggle that head off it.

  4. I think it was fitted by Westfalia on certain models (ours is a Helsinki) - did a bit of googling and found the attached pic of someone else's bus minus the handle - obviously gets a bit brittle and snappy with age... (Bit like me really) image.jpg

  5. Thanks Birdy - we had a good go at it in situ and concluded it was part of the bracket. Maybe I need to unbolt it and have a proper fiddle at the weekend.

  6. Sure Birdytlb is right, all the handles that I've ever seen have a square socket fitting

  7. Mine's the same as yours - I was going to buy that new handle from JK, but I might see how you go on with fitting yours first! Please can you let me know how you get on? :)

  8. Sure no probs

  9. Mine comes off, like this

  10. I am confused ?? is this a bracket opposite end of the door to the handle which opens the door ?

What does it look like with the handle on.

I have a bracket with the square above and am not sure what goes on it

  11. I agree with Birdy.. The new handle although plastic has that alloy cog shaped insert within... That is what is still attached to your bracket..

Wiggle it of and the new handle will fit..

    If it doesn't it's Birdy's fault :)

So I am missing my handle....

  13. Apparently this handle helps shut the slider quietly when on site;-)

Indeed it is. Westfalen called it the silent door handle. No doubt they developed it due to complaints from those in tents hearing the shooooowclunk of the door. It's something marowak could have done with a few years ago when he upset some fellow campers on a tent. We had a door-off after that. It was like music.

Cog shape. That's the word I was looking for. Cheers.

  16. Just revisited this post after a few days absence and between you you've gone and solved my problem. Thank ye kindly!

  17. Hi Pablo,

I just wondered if you got your JK handle to fit eventually? I bought one from a show but it didn't fit, so just want to make sure the JK one does before I buy it!

    Cheers.

  18. Hi I ended up ordering an original handle from Franks Busparts instead (cost less than a tenner). I did manage to wiggle the cog shaped thingy off the bracket and the handle fit perfectly. I'm fairly sure the JK one would've fit too though... Guess at least you can return it if it doesn't..
