Out with the old and in with the new.

  2. Ricksgransen it turns out is a Swedish ski resort 200km north of the Arctic circle in Lapland.

it would be cool to get a new sticker, perhaps I'll make the trip one day (BN6 reinstalled).

  3. The front of the bus has the outline of what looks like an HIF logo. Not sure what this is? Most likely the school or club that originally owned the bus.

  4. A little quick update. Not very exciting, well at least for me as I don't get much from looking at wiring pics, but we'll start with the parts bin find - a ratty single point aerial to replace the broken one on the van so I can listen to Absolute FM whilst pooling around the leafy lanes.

The windscreen had to come out because of a crack which would not pass MOT. This enabled Russ to remove the dash and get at the wiring proper.

Arghh. This is why I like my old Oval Beetle, it only has about 6 wires in the whole car!

    Flux capacitor control unit removed.

Then the wheels fell off. Wiper motor seized and none in stock at the usual suppliers.

Luckily a strip down and an overnight bath in penetrating oil and it's all good again!

Making some headway now but a long way to go yet. It's amazing that even a simple fixer upper still entails a lot of work and i haven't even begun on the interior which is a huge list!

  5. Looks like someone fitted an uprated headlight loom to it. Great mod as it allows the full 12v+ to the headlight bulbs rather than the 9.5v you usually find there. Makes a helluva difference to night driving especially if Osram Nightbreaker bulbs are added too.

  6. Not sure what was going on but it's out now. Everything is being kept so can always go back in down the line. For now I just want everything to work so we can get an MOT on it.

  7. Great thread!

  9. Been a bit quiet of late, the only times I got to get online I was too sozzled to post anything coherent so have stayed offline. Russ however has been hard at work so here's the latest update.

The first bit of news was not good. Remember how chuffed we were to have saved the wiper motor, well it eventually went up in flames and took out half the wiring loom under the dash, nightmare. At that point I think we were both about ready to chuck it in!

However a trip to Hull and back and new loom and motor in hand the dash got put back together and refitted. New screen and aerial fitted too.

New fuel sender unit fitted (nothing too exciting to see here).

    Sill and floor going in.

Lots of trial fitting went on here before seam welding.

New jacking points, outriggers etc. Same as the other side.

New runner in and slides perfectly.

    Door back on.

    Gaps are great!

That's it for now. THere's a load of seam welding and grinding to be done underneath but edging closer now.

    Happy New Year everyone!!

  10. Great progress again! Welding in the garage is hard to stay motivated in this cold I've found!

  11. Nice progress on the bus! Will be great when done :) I think the HIF in the front of the bus stands for Helsingborgs Idrotts Förening and is a Swedish football team. Check: www.hif.se

That's an interesting little bit of information.

  13. I saw that when I googled HIF it could be the case but I believe it was a school bus. I am trying to find out more. The logo was obviously on it for some time.
I'm looking forward to using the bus soon!

Nice work on your van. I like tin tops and when they're all one colour (apart from mine!)

Do you know where the van was from in Sweden? You could get @Martin Henriksson on the case as it may be something in the Swedish language he could find quicker? :)

  15. Not sure, I am asking the guy that originally brought it into the country but that was about 10 years ago.

  16. As we are 4 days into the New Year it's time for an update. I was hoping we'd be updating on the interior fit out this week but these things always take longer (and cost more) than expected.

A little smoke from welding due to some hidden silicon, it's all gone now.

Rear quarter was a bit sketchy but looking better now. This is not going to be a show painted van and will have some patina, but not rust or rot.

A little extra Christmas present from Russ,aww..

I treated myself to these too

Hoping to have it MOT'd next week, but now I've written it down I've probably jinxed it.

  18. Another update from the farm today.

The BN6 holes have been tacked and sealed to allow me or someone else to reinstate down the line if they want.

Looking a bit ugly at the door shut end

    finished here

    stone chipped

  19. uh, liberal stone chip application continues

and this is what happens when you weld under a nice thick layer of stone chip

    and into primer

This is the final area that needs attention, basically the entire battery tray has rusted out and started to take the corner with it. This bit will get done

and this will wait for another day

all chipped underneath ready for undersea

So, that leaves battery tray, rear corner, a few small repairs on the floor inside the van, reinstall seats and belts, rear fog light, front fogs, exhaust, fuel gauge sender... ah yes, a fair bit to go yet.

  20. Russ managed to get the battery tray sorted this weekend and to finish up a load of seam sealing underneath.

Don't you just love biscuit tin battery trays?

    Now that is crusty

And that's it, about the last of the major welding needing doing, just got to finish up this rare quarter.

Splash on some paint, fit the fog lights, fuel gauge sender, sliding door, belly pans, refit interior and put the engine bay back together ready for MOT!
