  1. Thanks for the intel. I think we have lights but may go for some LED types. Need to research this though.

  5. Thanks it's all Russ and Chris' work, I just pay the bills and ask dumb questions during this phase. I'll be doing the interior and some other small touches.

  6. The rear brakes are all together now. The castle nuts required a little persuasion to be removed.

And final update for the day, rear arch all solid again.

As the van is not going to be painted I've asked Russ to try and blend the new paintwork in as best as possible.

  7. Right ho, a quick update from deepest darkest Bedfordshire on progress this week. First off was the long panel repair. Russ was ready with the clecos but a combination of good repair panel, good OG panel and good prep meant the reapair could go straight on. Fans were to keep the panels cool and help to stop distortion.

  8. Sorry about the pic links, I struggle with Photobucket on the iPad and the app on the iPhone is useless. I'll fix it from the laptop tomorrow.

Anyway, the other work of the week was to repair the mountings for the front roll bar. Stripped bolts and rusted parts all now fixed.

  9. And finally, gearbox mount was missing completely, perhaps borrowed for another project in the past? Anyway, the cycle continues and Vynii has given up the requisite part.

The underside will need a detail and paint down the line.

The week ahead will see Russ get cracking with the sliding door channel. I need to get started with the registration paperwork ready for when the MOT is done (can't be long now), and adapting an old RHD Westy interior I have to fit the LHD Swede. Most importantly planning a visit Thursday with my daughter to check out things in person.

see that funny black bracket, that's for fitting a 3 point belt to the middle row of bench seats, if you need some brackets for the rear I supply them :D

  15. More progress to report. The fuel filler neck rubber had started to perish and needed replacing. A combination of a live wasps nest and the ECU made this a tricky job, but it's done now.

Hard to photograph but you get the idea.

After filling up the tank with 20 litres or so I was able to take the van for a drive around the farm and get some pics. It drives great. The FI makes for a very different feel from the air-cooled engine. Throttle is much more responsive and the idle is very smooth.

  16. The tow bar is good, the electrics need testing.

Lots of original details on the van.

These are the holes for the BN6 outlets. I am sure it was a very toasty van when all this was installed.

  18. Work is now starting on this side.

    Needs a fair bit doing.

Thankfully the door is in very good condition.

Shame the same can't be said for the runner channel. Which is now chopped out.

Repair panels don't come complete for the runner channel so needed a fair bit of work to get to this stage.

Donor part for the C post which has a very specific end profile for the runner to channel into.
