Owned this Devon about 15 years, 6 of which have been spent restoring it...... Hopefully it should finally be back on the road this year.........probably
Cheers for the welcomes...... Blossom has had the usual stuff.......bottom 6 inches all round, new front panel, new front arches etc...... Hers some pics.....got loads........
Cheers for that .....heres some more inspiration for you... Home garage was too small......so pastures new.... She was in good company..... Lets hope rust isn't contagious!!! Phew........6 years, so far........altho there was a break of 2 years while we concentrated on getting a mates bay back on the road.....
wow, loads of work reminds me of all the bits I've had to do over the last 2 years. yours is Looking really good now K+ for a new resto thread
Thanks Diddymen..... Hit the workshop again today........the score is a mate owns a workshop, another mate had a van that needed a resto too.......solved, we both do our vans up, then we all do the other mates van as payment. Thats one reason mine has took so long........ We did my mates up first........here it is. Funnily enough, its my vans twin, same conversion, same colour, same age......... Heres Blossom, when I had less hair, and smaller kids......... ;D One last view from above.... Some nutter.......
Started flatting today.......and just about finished. Thats the benefit of having three of us at it ........cant understand why this resto has taken so long. Altho here one reason.......... If Carlsberg did resto's........ Gotta decide paint soon.......still looking towards Jade Green to the swage then Alpine white above. And decide wether £600 of new doors.......or sort out old ones.......
Yeah, cheers.......having a good mate who also runs a VW restoration business, is a help Its like kids in a sweet shop......... Getting to play every Saturday ......heres another toy.......... I might start another thread in the 'other rides' forum......
Time to attack the poptop.....decided to go for resealing it. Another reason was to investigate a loose crossmember underneath.... Nice day down in Barny.......so........ The bellows where ripped, so the whole thing was cut away in one........the hinges just broke away so that was easy......by the way the extending arms are lethal weapons when the tension is released!!! Drill rivets to release the bellows at the side....... That releases the outer frame........incidently the seal insert was underneath. Is that right????? Drill the rest of the rivets.....top and bottom edge, releases the bellows....... Leaving this........ Did I say the hinge brackets need replacing? The roof lining had a tear or two so will be replaced.........this explains a couple of them.... the strengthener had broke both sides....... Rivets had broke allowing the strengthener bar to 'rattle'....over time I guess it 'fatigue cracked'..... Anyone got any recommendations for a material to cover the top???
