  1. just a quick question as want to double check , the brass butterfly on the bottom spindle "throttle ? " has a small hole in it and also has 2 small semi circle bits chamfered onto the one face of it with a number stamped next to them . now which way up does that butterfly go in ? does the smooth plain bit face down so its visible from the bottom or does the chamfered bit with the number on it face down ? also the small hole in the butterfly does that have to been the same side as the hole in the side of the throat of the carb.

hope this makes sense as not sure of the technical terms lol

    thanks :)

  2. I don't know if this will help but I have a right hand 34 pdsit 3 carb in front of me now. It's off a t4 engine and I think yours is the single carb from the 1600. On mine If you face along the spindle from the choke end and look down the carb, the butterfly fits into a slot on the spindle so that the small hole faces to the right and the chamfered bit is on the top. When you open the butterfly the chamfered side comes up. The screws fit from the top.

Does it help or are you now even more confused?

Chamfer so that the throttle closes totally - the chamfered edge of the plate should touch the throttle bore all the way round when the throttle is closed. It will not shut properly if it is the wrong way up.

I think the stamped numbers face you when it is all together on the genuine carb.

Heres a Chinese knockoff site showing a picture of how they put the throttle plate in, with the orientation of the hole . There arent many pictures of the bottom of the carb on the net.
