Got myself a replacement carb, but this one has what I believe is a dashpot(?), whereas my old one didn't. I can't really work out what the dashpot does. So does it matter if it has a dashpot, when my old one didn't? Can I/should I remove it? This new carb was running the same engine setup as I have. The dashpot(?) Is the flying saucer thing in the middle of PIC
It's a throttle damper, slows the shutting of the throttle, more common on US busses I think, not strictly necessary.
'Tis indeed a throttle damper, designed to close the throttle more slowly when you take your great hoof of the pedal. A quick VW fix to get round emissions regs, I think. They actually do beggar all. You can safely remove it and display it on the mantlepiece. Or use it as a marital aid.
Aha, thank you sir, Could not figure it out! Well I'll give it a go, it worked fine on its previous host, so should be ok
Hahaha I think @MrsVolkswombat has had enough of my marital aids, shes already ended up nearly a foot shorter than me
I got the dashpot name from my manuals, is that just a different name for same thing? Or was I muddling up with something else?
Proper dash pots are on SU carbs on MGs ext, perform similar function but are actually enclosed in a "pot"
I'm normally Mr grumpy apparently, I blame the camper. So slapped my new carb on today and bosh, I'm back in the game
