Leaving Dover to invade France First night stop in (I forget where) then on to Lac de la Liez for some swimming and another night stop From here we headed down pass Dijon stopping for breakfast by the vines of Burgundy. spent the next five days being burnt in 50c plus sun and bitten at night by mosquitoes just south of Vichy at Puy-Guillaume
Had enough of that so moved east to Le Dorat an ancient town, with fine examples of Romanesque architecture, especially the 11th Century Collegiate of Saint-Pierre. 30 minutes from here is Lac de Saint-Pardoux, which has a swimming area, tree top rope walk thingy and a campsite in the woods (no good to us no sunlight). the tree top thingy from which there is a death slide over the lake and a bike to ride on a wire.
Next will did a touristy thing and visited Oradour-sur-Glane a village that was destroyed on 10 June 1944, when 642 of its inhabitants, including women and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company. All the women and children were locked in the church while the village was looted. Meanwhile, the men were led to six barns and sheds where machine-gun nests were already in place. The soldiers proceeded to the church and placed an incendiary device there. After it was ignited, women and children tried to escape through the doors and windows of the church, but they were met with machine-gun fire. A pram found in the church. the melted church bell
From La Dorat we moved up to one of the best sites we know in France. Saint-Martin-de-le-Place 10k northwest of Saumur. The Lorie from the beach next to the site. Parked up by the vines south of Saumur on a wine buying trip. We like this Cave as we get a discount voucher from the campsite ;D Smiler watching over our pitch No81
Heading homeward with a night stop planned at Dieppe but found it full to bursting so went north to the small town of Ault were you parked up by the tennis centre.
