2011 began for us with plans of a house move and high expectations of van adventures , the bay was three parts finished and the new house had a garage with a pit - wow --- bring it on ,after three weeks in bed with a bad back over christmas i was up for it .

Dubfreeeze in the bongo was a gas - we were warm at least :)

The house move went ahead in march , the previous nine years of loft junk nearly brought on heart attacks all round , but the day came and went without the major catastrophe that we have become accustomed to on moving day , we did upset our new Neighbour the old bat across the road who is fat and talks with a plum in her mouth ( this in no way makes her a bad person - her lack of personality and arrogant condescention does however ) when we towed Rhubarb , the rusting hulk we call our campervan across her driveway , we then had the tinsiest of problems getting it into the garage because the door was too low -- so we parked her up and put kettle on .

Eventually the door was raised and as we pushed Rhubarb in we noticed the back wheels were splayed - on closer inspection we found the now famous cracked rear beam - oh deep joy , allehuja more welding !.

We slummed it at camperjam in our tent and clapped out volvo - cos the van was'nt done and we sorely needed inspiration - van wise , great weekend made better by great people and an excellent venue , still smiling at some of the incidents even now .

After Camperjam it was back to the grind , holidays had been foregone in favour of the resto and house move , Lou me n the boys have all worked hard at our respective tasks , Lou as settled in to her new job as a school dinner lady , err lunchime supervisor , and she has kept her lollipop lady ,err crossing patrol person job goin too ,considering the illness she live's with every day this is brilliant progress .

Neil as entertained us with his new rock band , his classical piano performances at the town hall playing his own compositions - brill , last week he went to London to be interviewed for a place as a architectural undergraduate -- we are so proud .

Will has come on in leaps and bounds , he has represented his school in golf at county level and this week sang in the school play -- a massive step forward considering the speech impediment he was born with -- Bloomin brill .

Me n the van have moved slowly forward , one step at a time with occasionally two or three back - we have come to a understanding now , i lavish lots of time money and effort on her and she does jack - just sits there looking pretty .

At least i know she's a lot better than a year ago , her transformation is almost complete , i think she's done better out of the deal than me , i have gone greyer , have bags under me eyes and struggle to move my limbs when i get up - she has regained her glow , her joints run smoother than ever and her eye's are looking brighter -- metal surgery hghly recommended and very uplifting for aging hippy chick vans - but don't come to me for it .

Next year is gonna be campin year starting with dubfreeze -- OR BUST !!

i have just picked out the better bits of our year i hope everyone else can reflect on some good points too -- surely it has'nt all been doom and gloom ?.

  5. I enjoyed your story Malc. And I agree, it's not all doom and gloom. My bus was on the motorway today for the first time. On the back of a trailer mind. But that's better than spending 10 months in the corner of a paintshop. So she left the paintshop today (and boy, doesn't she look fine, straight as an arrow) and has gone off for her Scooby 2.5 engine conversion. Due to my business being manic for the next several weeks I won't get to drive her until 1st February. But roll on that day.

That sounds proper rough. I guess at least we stuck it out long enough for the winkies to grow up and avoided all that pain.
None of us have heard from Exmrs Z for a few months and she's stopped picking up her post (ha-ha - she's been fined for forgetting to SORN her scooter and doesn't know). Maybe she got run over? I suggested mildly to the kids that they might check if she's ok but they haven't bothered and I don't really care enough to contact her myself or jog them again. Maybe she's moved? Quite in character for her not to bother telling her own children.

Midlife crisis? Exactly - we never fell out. We chatted in the evenings for an hour or two everyday even when she was lusting after Elvis (not that i knew at the time). Still, what's done is done and no going back now.:)

  12. 2011? Well I'm still alive and I've found a lively bunch of looneys on a VW forum that keep me entertained and the little grey cells active. ;D I count myself lucky very lucky indeed. Thanks guys .
