  1. Purchased 30 April struggled home from Devon, broke down towed, starts, bangs, oh dear!

    So I have compression; No 1 - 148psi, No 2 - 141psi, No 3 - 135psi, No 4 - 145psi - is this good there less than 10%variation

Static timing - points open at 16 degrees after TDC as picture this is where points open see picture below

Also the dizzy driving gear is 180 degrees out so the No 1 rotor position points forward at about -20 degrees (left) rather than rearwards at 160 degrees. (ie where 3 should be) Im a bit scarred of turning the gear by 180 in case the shim falls into the engine! The dizzy arm moves up by over 0.25ins too!

Carbs are synchronized but the throttle valves don't reach WOT, left carb has a nice flood of fuel on accel, right has a squirt - I guess they should be the same? Blocked? Dirty?

Next steps to set timing to I think its 7.5 degrees BTDC (from 16 degrees ATDC) then fire her up!

Carbs need a clean T recon too - Glasto only 4 weeks away, gotta get to it

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

You could have done that in less time than it took to write it. ;)

  3. Lol.

Set to 7.5 or there abouts. Give it a go. If it doesnt get some easi start down the carbs and see if she fires. If yes then get jiggy with the fuel system. If all seems ok get the tappets set. Ive no experience of dissy being 180 out so cant comment but logically if the right leads are pointing at the right cylinders then all is good. You might try checking that btw get no 1 to tdc and check rotor position. That should be the lead for no 1.
