1979 Devon for sale

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by Theelliotts, Aug 20, 2018.

  1. We are reluctantly selling our 1979 Devon camper. We have owned it for the past 7 years and over that time it has been through a complete restoration with a nationally recognised and respected Air-cooled VW restoration company, it has had a back to metal respray (I have all the photos of the resto).

Inside it has bespoke handcrafted oak units and table top with a rear wardrobe. The front seats have been refilled and recovered in a cream leatherette, and new foam filled rear cushions that make up the rear seat and bed in the same material. It has all new door cards also recovered in cream. There is a 3 point seatbelt and a lap belt fitted on the back seats.

It sleeps 4 with 2 children in the original bunks in the new pop top, this has air vents and windows to let in light and air when you are camping. It has a 2 burner stove and a cupboard that will fit a camping fridge if one is required.

The vehicle itself is a 1600 petrol, which runs perfectly and has an MOT until 11 June 2019. We have also fitted a fire extinguisher system into the engine bay which will go off if any heat is detected from the engine. We had the rear brakes completely rebuilt last month along with a few other bits that were picked up on the MOT but for its age, it is in very good condition. It also has electric hook up and leisure battery electrics professionally installed. All the panels are original, and the van has recently been waxoyl’d. The mileage is currently 134k which is very low for a van that is nearly 40 years old!

We have the complete back catalogue of history and MOT certificates as well as most receipts for services/repairs/purchases etc.

We get a lot of comments whenever we are out in the van and its always a talking point when we pull up on a campsite. As you can see from the photos it is a wonderful example of the T2 and had a very loving restoration, unfortunately our children have outgrown the bunks now and we are starting to use it less and less. It is garaged when not in use so not exposed to the elements at all.

It also has a 12v Avtex TV/DVD player that is attached on the back of the buddy seat that is always handy when travelling with children to keep them entertained.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

  2. Hi could you supply a bit more regards the pictures & restoration. Is it a UK Van.
Who did the restoration & when.
Is the engine a restored or rebuilt unit and how many miles has engine done, any mods to engine carbs etc.
Did that involve a repaint and is there much filler in the van.
What is the state of underside / rust issues, and are the gutters good. Can you supply photos of those areas.
Could you supply me some more photos regards the inside, cooker and layout of units as would want to put a fridge in there.
I appreciate you have not revealed the REG NUMBER, but that does allow me to check history regards MOT history.
If you can supply this info either on this site, PM me or my e mail: leegrear@icloud.com
I have recently sold my 68 bay and am now looking for a good reliable Late Bay
