Managed to get the seats in – what should have been an easy job turned out to be a complete arse of a job. The passenger’s seat went straight in – but the driver’s side was down to me welding in the runner 3mm to far over – when I put in the new wheel arch in I measured up the old one and welded in the new once – but I must have cocked up – so thinking I could move the runners on the bottom of the seat over a little to compensate – only to find out that if you did ,the seat back comes off. The runner I welded in was welded in big time – so my option was to take the other one off by grinding out the spot welds – did that, and re fixed it in place – I should have put the runner on the seat and welded it in when I did it originally, anyhow – it’s done now and looks great.
Finished putting all the tin ware in last night – all went fine – but that foam seal is a right bugger to get seated at the rear of the engine because my hands are like spades – the foam seal is open celled on one side and has a rubberised type finish on the side. Now, not knowing the correct way to fit the seal – I decided to fit it rubberised side down as this would offer better water proof properties to the engine bay by not soaking up the water from below– it’s probably wrong.
It’s been a while since I have put anything up – but all of the things I have been doing have been bits Anyhow – the van has gone off to get MOT today – and I have asked them to go through the whole van checking everything (you just never know) It’s booked in for its interior last week – so I’m running late I was hopefuly going to get it done by mid-April – but it’s now looking like next week. Hopefully it will be back in a few days’ time; meanwhile I now have room in the garage to do paint the pop up. The van does look like it sits well, and it looks good in the day light, so I’m very happy with the results.
mate this bus is looking amazing, reall attention to detail! Can I ask what pressure it should be at, as I filled mine with water and added air into the bottle, and watter was conitnuosly seeping out of my washer jets til there was no pressure left to let me use them when i actually need them!! can you help at all? thanks and sorry to thread jack
Well done Marc, great achievement given the timescale and extent of work you've done, Getting the MOT means you'll now be evicted from the Restoration's board! The interior is just the icing on the cake! Edit... brucieboy - you need a new non return valve in the pipe to your washer jets.
thanks mate, are they easily accessible? both to buy and fit? so is it the pipe from the bottle to the jet? or does it come from the washer jet lever on the steering column?
Thanks Still the roof and the inside to do - so will post some pics when done - and then time to use the camper---------hope the weather stays and we have a good do with it this summer - Im the Lakes way - so will do that this year - Marc
Started doing the pop up to – and it’s a mess Years of grime festering – the worst is that I can’t get the plastic sides really clean Tried with fairy liquid and water – then I used my patio cleaner solution that has bleach in it – that did a ½ decent job – then I had a go with Thinners to get rid of the black imbedded grime and that started bringing off the red stripes It’s not too bad but I wonder if there are better options out there? The plastic sides apart from the grime are ok with 3 cuts/nick and I will patch them up – again if anyone has ant tips of how they have done there’s – I was thinking of finding some white plastic and gluing the patches from behind – any help here would be appreciated After that I painted the inner bit of the glass fibre as it had never been pained – used a paint brush!!!
Turned over the top and spent an hour with Tom sanding off all the algae and then sanding out scratches /imperfections. Cleaned off with de grease, and then tacked off before Tom applied 2 coats of white high build primer wile I sat outside.
Well got home from work and Tom was already in the garage flatting off the primer – so when I got there it was ready for its top coats – mixed up 2 full pots of paint (each full pot is .66 lt – at a ratio of 2 parts Paint: 1 part Fast 2k hardener with 10 % 2k thinners) So it must have been 0.90 Lt of Paint, 0.66 Lt of Fast Hardener and a splash of 2k thinners. After the first coat we left it 10 mins to dry off before the 2nd thick and final coat The only problem is that a bloody great big fly decided it was it time to do a kamikaze dive into the middle of the wet paint – so that will have to be flatted out – but this morning the finish is nice and flat – Just need to get the van back and put its roof on!
Nice work on the pop top I need to paint mine once its been sanded and filled in places , your van is really nice
