UK (West Sussex) based sale. Fantastic opportunity to purchase my much admired, 2.0 litre air cooled, 1978 ‘Champagne” limited edition Volkswagen t2, or John as he has become affectionately known! We have replaced both front brake callipers, brake push rod to servo (in place of a scary home made affair!!), both track rods, steering drag link, refurbished the alternator, fitted a new battery, replaced x2 leaking push rod tubes, and given him a mini service, oil and filter. The van starts up no problem and romps along strongly - new 2L engine fit in late 2015, less than 1000 miles on new engine. The bodywork is very straight with no dents. I am guessing that it had a refurb from the company that imported it from the States. Its been re sprayed in its original colours, the paint has a brilliant sheen but it does have a number of tiny bubbles/blisters – probably the result of too much solvent in the paint/ water in the airline/ or blisters from the hot American sun that weren’t prepped properly – They don’t show up in the photographs or detract from its overall appearance. I’m not sure if the stripes are exactly the same colour as the originals but they look fantastic!! The front arches are both original (the offside one has had a previous repair) as are the sills. The rear arches have both had a bit of work but have been done to very good standard. The roof gutters are in excellent order. The sliding door, rear hatch and engine lid are also excellent, both front doors have a bit of rust bubbling through on the lower edge. The front panel is original and excellent, Attention will be needed for the lower n/s corner and o/s step at some point. Very cool deluxe front and rear Chrome bumpers with rubber trim. There’s lots of tread on the tires. Oh and I almost forgot, it has an ultra rare factory fitted sliding sunroof!!! The Sunroof only opens to a quarter of the aperture it needs new cables ( available from VW Heritage). The underside/chassis of this van is absolutely fantastic all 100% rock solid. Its been under sealed, again this looks to have been done when first coming over to the UK. I’ve scraped some off to reveal the original paint its pretty much as good as you are going to get on one of these. The main chassis beams are fantastic as are all outriggers and jacking points, cargo floor, front valance etc. All the window seals and door aperture rubbers have been replaced with top quality parts. It has working front chrome opening quarter lights and the middle window slides open on both sides. New seat belts fitted front and rear. All the seats have been reupholstered which are super comfy and look great. I’ve made x2 new kicker boards in the same material. Everything works in the van – all clocks, CD/radio lights etc. The thing to do next would be to replace the roof liner, which looks a bit scruffy. To summarize, ‘John’ is an excellent, mostly original, unique bus, to use as is or improve/modify. For sale as is, and comes with a 'new' MOT (2/2/2017) - only advisory was handbrake tension which was fixed. Is SORN atm. Viewing, inspections, test drives welcomed. Will add more photos soon £10k ono
Looks nice. It doesn't work like that on here though; all adverts need a price and location, or they get removed. Thanks
