  1. Hi all,

Just joined and put my first posts in the tech forum and got the answer I was after straight away. Top service ladies and gents!

Anyway, I'm not new to Bays, we've had ours for 11 years now, it's just we bought a 1965 Split three years ago and the bay has been tucked safely away in the garage while we try to co camping in half the space! ::) I'm now waking him up and looking to get the bits done that I know need to be sorted, with a view to having him MOT'd for the beginning of next year. (I am a leisurely worker!) First job, per my tech post, is to replace the fuel lines as all the petrol I put in to fire him up ended up on the garage floor!!

Here's a few pics of him before he was mothballed. I'll try to keep this thread updated with progress in getting him out and about on the lanes of the Cotswolds again soon!

  6. Cheers for the nice comments all, I think he needs it as he's been feeling a little overlooked lately!

Was your blue canvas from Individual Interiors in Upton on Severn? It looks similar. That's where we had ours done back in 2003. I note you haven't got the side windows though. Essential to check the weather from bed first thing in the morning!

I've replaced the offending fuel line with proper high pressure hose, and he started up on the button after 2 years! 8) Due to the heavy showers we've been getting since, I haven't managed to roll him out of the garage yet. He's sat on a crusty old set of steel rims with no tyres at the moment as it was the only way I could get him in the garage. Made a right mess of the drive on the way in! The carpet will be down for his reappearance which will hopefully be this weekend now.

Had a bit of a poke around and the o/s outer sill under the slider is rusted thu in one spot, there's a rust thu on the n/s wheel arch step and the battery tray has seen better days! (all of which will need new metal). A few bubbles elsewhere too where there's a bit of rust lurking: deck lid, rear valance, around rear quarter light, but nothing that a good clearout, prime and skim wont sort. Looking forward to getting him back up on tyres so I have enough room to have a proper look underneath to take stock. Most panels were replaced back in 2003/04 before a respray (whole front panel, o/s dog leg both rear arches and quarters, o/s door) so body work it still in pretty good nick overall.

Oh, and my Split passed his MOT first time yesterday so I can concentrate all my efforts into getting this boy rolling now!

  7. The canvas was on the bus when I got it so I'm not sure where he got it. He was going to paint the bus blue. :)

  8. Blue? Instead of that beautiful classic original colour? Nooooo! Glad you didn't do the same! We actually chose it for ours. There wasn't a good "stock" replacement so it was either blue or red from memory. I think it looks nicely distinctive (and it goes with our blue awning!)

Is the "VW Weddings" company yours then? I did a last minute favour for a friend a few weeks back in our Splitscreen. Absolutely loved it (as did all the wedding party) Didn't expect the "please start" nerves when I got him out of the garage in the morning though! Have since given thought to getting the legalities sorted to do a bit more to make him earn his keep! Do you think there's a living to be made from it running one bus? And don't worry, being in the Cotswolds, I should be far enough away not to be serious competition! 8)

  10. Hey, Welcome to the site, can I ask how you how well your automatic runs, does it do well uphills? and also when it runs below half way on fuel, is the performance compromised?

Im lovin your van (im a fellow auto owner) ever thought of colour coding those vents

  12. Nice looking bus. Interesting what you have done with the fridge. Looks like a neat job.

Can you stick bits on your bus, take them off and then put them back in different places ? Just like the real Mr Potatohead ? The bumpers could become eyebrows ?

This is beginning to sound daft so I'm going.........

  13. Very nice, like the colour ;)
