FOR SALE 1977 USA Import Safare High Top Now with running engine and 12 months MOT

1977 VW Safare High top camper
This was imported by me last year from the US. Its the rare Safare model, with the permanent hightop with bags of room up top for two adults or kids and no poptops to keep putting up and down.
Its a really solid bus with only a light area of rust in the front cab footwells but this would rub out as its not deep.
The interior was rough so we stripped it out and painted the floor and fitted brand new marine ply floor. We have then carpeted the rear load area and wheel tubs.
The 1600cc engine was only running on three cylinders so we took it out and its still in pieces awaiting rebuild(its currently at our local garage but hasnt been started yet).
The two front seats are there and are Captain style both on swivel bases. One has a tear in the vinyl but are usable.
The ignition switch also needs replacing as it was given a check over and rewire by a vehicle electrician. It does have one key which fits all locks.
There is a couple of small dings in the van and the window rubbers could do with being replaced although the windscreen and rear have been done.
It has good General Grabber tyres on as these things were built to go up into the wild mountains of the USA west coast.
It has the three cushions for the top bed area, two of these are brand new.
So it would need for an MOT the engine checked over and re-sited back into the bus, the ignition switch replaced and UK spec headlights fitted. Should then go through the test no probs as its really solid.
This bus comes complete witth customs form showing vat has been paid on this and the original US title document.

Now has recon 1641cc engine fitted and has 12 months mot. Priced to sell at 6k.

Very rare too in this country. You either love or hate these but you sure get noticed. We were going to turn it into a milkshake bar, would make a great catering van!

 

Hi - I am looking for just the high top roof & although I love the Safare shape many don't like it because of the height.
Thus just a proposal if it helps you sell - I will give you £1000 for the top if you get some one who wan'ts to fit a pop top or even exchange it for my Viking Spacemaker roof
