  1. Hi all

Well after some greatly received advice thought id pop some details re my first resto on a 1977 T2 Bay Kombi - Resto / Import.

Only just started on this project so hope to keep all informed and also share ideas aswell as blood, sweat and Tears along the way.

The camper was bought off ebay, of all places but in fairly good nick, despite the usual rot on sills and nearside jacking points.

Already got stuck in with a welder, main points being SILLS, All those new to sills, one word of advise if replacing the door runner sill dont go cutting out expecting to get a new part from just campers or vw heritage as i thought, as after much deliberation it appears they do NOT manufacture the inner taper to which the runner slides along NIGHTMARE !

However with a quick post on Latebay everyone shot to help, Diddymen and Mork pointing me in the right direct of VOLKSHEAVEN - http://www.volksheaven.co.uk/ Im now the proud owner of a good sill chop complete with decent runner.

So the lesson being of course if it cant be found on VWHERITAGE - http://www.vwheritage.com/ OR JUSTCAMPERS - http://www.justkampers.com/ Then try the dedicated salvage and import guys - if unsure then start asking questions on here.

I know for all the guys that have already been through similar traumas this will be like sucking eggs, but anyone starting for the first time then i hope this helps by showing you the mistakes i make and hopefully how ive got round them thus saving you the time.

Anyway heres the pics on photobucket, please note pics album starts in reverse order so what ever you see at pic 1 will be the latest pic taken, which today is the new sill import - hope this helps, and feel free to post your suggestions if you think im heading down - Balls up Avenue !!
