FOR SALE 1973 Tax Exempt Bay Camper

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by TheVWDoc, Aug 5, 2013.

  1. Well, it is with great sadness that I find that we are having to sell our beloved Bay Camper.
We bought the Camper in 2006 after taking it to Bug Jam for a friend as he wanted to sell it. We fell in love with it and bought it!

The Pop-top was fully refurbished in 2006 after us being fed up with it's constant leaking - a detailed How-To can be found on this site, written by me.

It was stripped bare by me and sent of to be welded, re-painted (in Savannah Beige and an Audi Brown) and restored at the beginning of 2007 by Luke and the team at Terry's Beetle Services in Hanwell.

The Van was returned to me in April where we re-fitted the interior along the style of the original Devon conversion making subtle modifications along the way to make the interior more usable, functional and clean. It is a full restoration, so new cushions and curtains etc were fitted, together with new floor finished etc, etc.

The first outing to a VW event was to the ACE Cafe where it won an SSVC/Prosign Trophy for best Non Split screen Vehicle. At the show it was spotted by James Peene of (then) Camper & Bus Fame who subsequently featured it in Camper & Bus Magazine

We were invited to show it at the following years Volksworld Show - which we did and loved :)
A brief overview/specification of the Van as it stands now is:

Kenwood 7 speaker stereo, with 10” Sub and two amplifiers and 10 CD Auto-changer

Centre arm rest/storage box comprising storage space and the 10" subwoofer

    Eberspacher D2 Diesel Heater

    CSP Gear Shifter

VW Paradise 2110 engine, with Steve Timms ported and polished heads and match ported manifold, deep sump, remote oil cooler with auxiliary fan and delay start fan relay - This engine is no screamer - it pulls very well. Driving in 3rd from 15-60mph comfortably, it just pulls and pulls. Built as a torquey reliable engine.

    16” Porsche Boxster Alloy Wheels

    Lowered front and rear

Full subtle, custom interior based upon a Devon Interior featuring Walk-through front seats (both with 3-point seat belts), reversible centre seat (one 3-point seat-belt, one lap belt) rear seat seats 2/3 (one 3-point seat-belt, one lap belt). The centre seat is reversible to give seating around the over-head stored table. There is plenty of storage available under both the centre and rear seat.

The centre seat lays flat to give a ¾ width bed.

Stainless steel sink (no running water or internal cooking facilities)

Fully refurbished Devon Elevating roof – no leaks at all

Full Bare metal restoration in 2007 With VW Savannah Beige and Audi Brown paint professionally done by Terry’s Beetle Services, many panels replaced at the time.

    Two roof children hammocks

    Front cab Westfalia style hammock

    Over rear deck storage unit

    Wardrobe style Storage unit

Stainless Steel centre heating (replacement for original) pipe work, so standard heating can be used if needed

Stainless steel fixings used where possible.

We didn't use the Camper at all last year and as a result there is a small amount of rust on one of the outer front wheel arch lips, but really there isn't anything wrong with the Van
It has a full (virtually) 12 month MoT and also Tax (free) for 12 months - ready to enjoy the rest of the summer and well into next year.

Priced realistically to sell at £13,500 ono

The Camper is in East Sussex.
