  1. In between fabbing and welding i've been working through the body work(usually 9pm onwards) but getting there slowly.after the initial areas of filling, 3 good coats of 2k high build primer with the delivery on the gun wide open applied and a guide coat over that the day after gives me an idea of what is going on with the panels once blocked off.The panels are not bad really compared to some classic fords that i paint.I look forward to laying some colour on her in the next few weeks. 122.JPG 123.JPG 121.JPG

Work on the van on Monday involved cutting out some plates on the rear offside inner wheel arch and using a section of good steel from what was cut out of the nearside inner arch so as to keep the ‘flutes/moulding’ in the metal.
    Just needs tidying up.

Today involved repairing even more chassis sections as yesterday holes were discovered where the bracket welded to the end of the torsion beam connects with a bracket on the chassis (which is presumably to help so the torsion beam moving).

The hole and rust can be seen

The only way to remove the bracket was to cut the chassis (it’s got to be repaired anyway)

    A plate was made
    [IMG]

    Welded in

The bracket was well rusted through

The bracket was reinforced with some 2mm plate

And after the new reinforced section was welded to the original it was welded back into position.

Tim managed to remove the nearside one so that’s my job to repair tomorrow.

The plate for the nearside chassis was made today

    And welded into position

The bracket was worse than the last one

So a reinforcement was made for it and welded to the bracket.

And back onto the chassis it went

Due to the current Mrs T working and the eldest child going to teach swimming work for me had to stop so as to look after the youngest child.

This left Eddie with the opportunity to do more paintwork prep.

With luck the cargo floor will be ready for collection tomorrow afternoon and I will get the rear inner arches welded up.

Yesterday got the nearside inner arch sorted.

But today after doing a little bit on the van I had a little accident on an unlevel footpath at my mums and spent 3hrs in A&E.

Fractured right ankle which means I have to wear this for the next 6 weeks.

Thanks to the better half and her sewing skills work has continued as I’ve had a sock/cover for the ‘walking shoe’

So the rear firewall between the rear arches has gone in, the rear arches are now fully welded and given a coat of red oxide.
The central heater tube was wrapped and then the original covers outback on.

In addition (due to the fact the back of the cargo floor was rotten and had been plated over) some plates have been fabricated to make up the loss and it gives somewhere for the floor to rest against before being welded into place.

For the last few days we’ve had some help from a YTS lad.

I don’t think he’s very bright as he has his name written on his underpants so he doesn’t forget it

After going to the blasters the cargo floor was a bit the worse for tinworm so some repair work has to be done.
The offside panel was today’s challenge and took quite a few hours to sort putting the patches on the underside.

Looks better after a coating of red oxide.

Nearside section of the floor is tomorrow’s challenge.

Nearside half has been done today.

    Marked the holes
    [IMG]

    Patched the holes

    And covered in red oxide

Also took the dash out to fit the heater tubes and checked the wiper motor and linkage. Found that one spindle is just about worn through so another job has presented itself.

A dodgy welder has slowed me down but the floor is now in

The worn spindle shaft sleeve has been replaced

However the new shaft looked poorly made with no chromed areas

And the old spindle and new spindles are a different length.

So with the use of a spacer/washer the old spindle fitted into the new shaft. The new washer that came with the new spindle kit was filed to have a notch so as to locate it on the frame after which 2 nuts were tightened onto the sleeve in the correct position.

Today was tinware degreasing day using the parts washer

So after several hours I ended up with this lot that’s going for shotblasting (I have a set of tinware of my own that I want to restore so as to build a spare turnkey engine).

But I need the opposite 2 for these as I appear to be missing them.

My lack of welding has enabled Ed to carry on with the bodywork

    The gutters are really good.

I’m not yet taken with the new colour though and it still needs to be flattened and polished.

Found that the connections to the fuel gauge were being held in with bluetack so that too has been rectified. Also that an LED bulb has been inserted where the main beam indicator was and that there was no handbrake light, just a red lense with no nnerds

The lights issue was resolved thanks to a purchase from eBay.

Finally being able to lay some red oxide on the cargo floor has been a milestone for me as it means the welding is just about all done for me
