  1. @rickyrooo1 do you know at all?

    cheers!

  2. Reading the Haynes manual, it makes reference to replacing the oil in the final drive during a strip-down service and specifies SAE 90 Hypoid. However, I can't see any way of draining and refilling the box 'on the fly'. Haven't got the van yet so can't check out for real. Can't help thinking that 40 year old oil could do with a refresh?

  3. I bought a pan seal as that is the only way to drop it, you can refill through the hole on the side, the only other way to drain it is to suck it out. I used a turkey baster and some flexy hose that last one I did, saved getting the gasket.

  4. Thanks David, that sounds like a plan. How much oil goes back in? Just keep filling 'till it it's full or can you put too much in?

  5. I think its 1.8 pints, UK pints that is. If you can get a big syringe that is faster, for both removing and filling it back up, you will need a 17mm allen key or allen socket to get the nut off. I put in EP90 in the last final drive I had and it was nice and quiet, you can use 80/90 to be honest. the correct oil can be found still in outboard engine gearboxes.

  6. Brilliant! Thanks for the info and tips. Sounds like a nice little job to get me started:thumbsup:
