1971 Acoustic panels above engine Help

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Milo-steel, May 19, 2019.

  1. I'm currently trying to fit two metal panels above the engine that holds the acoustic sound deadening but I'm not sure I have the right panels, does anyone have pictures or parts diagrams showing the different types?

    Really appreciate any pic

    Cheers

To my knowledge the Early Bays were 2 metal sections and the Late Bays 2 or 3 hardboard sections depending if there was an inspection hatch or not.

Mine were hardboard so I have copies made in aluminium and painted them.

Just remembered I have the ones from my brothers 1973 which I had powder coated (they’re in the 3rd bedroom but don’t tell my wife)

My 73 has a hatch and had hardboard panels which I removed. They burned superbly after 45 years of oil and fuel etc.
I just put some non flammable sound deadener in the hatch and leave the rest to the 5 inch foam mattress on top of the deck.
Now I have a new engine that got rid of all the clatter best of all.

  5. These are the ones I have but I think these must be only for late bay as right panel doesn't fit

They are shaped differently as one fits around the spare wheel well and the other where the fuel filler neck is boxed in.
