Was just re-seating the heads after a valve grind and when tightening up the bolts (7lbs) i noticed that on the one site studs 1 & 2 (bottom middle) were being pulled out along with the case save by the looks of it (see picky). I have read about helicoils, anyone used them if so what size should i get (see picky). Or any other ideas???? thanks
Have they truely pulled out of the case? Any thread visible in the crankcase? If they have - which I find quite surprising, unless they've really been overtorqued in the past - I'd say your best bet would be to try and find a larger casesaver, if such things exist. Helicoils might to, but you'd have to match the casesaver threads on the outside. Most odd.
They do screw back in, but at you tighten them (7lbs first stage) you can feel them coming out. If you put them back in by hand they appear to be solid with now wobble at all. Just wondering if when tightening the nut they are undoing not pulling out........maybe some locktight to hold them in place.....
Hmm. Doesn't sound good. You'll be tightening them to 22 later (and they'll get even tighter when the engine's hot). I'd doubt locktite'll do the trick. New casesaver or helicoil time, I think
been looking at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_t...oil&_nkw=12x1.5mm Helicoil&_sacat=0&_from=R40 any thoughts, would i need to get 1.5d or 2d?
Just looked at the eBay link. To me the 1.5 is the standard pitch of an M12 thread, the number after gives the depth. M12=diameter x 1.5mm=pitch x depth/length is whatever the next number is.
Do head studs have a standard 1.5 pitch or a fine 1.25 pitch? Just asking cos I don't know and it will help the op.
