1600 engine in automatic bus

  1. Hi

I have late bay with a bad AP 1800-engine in it.
Bought a very good 1600 last week. Now I have found out what it can be tricky to put it in my bus because I have an automatic gearbox.

Does anyone here know if it is possible at all? What parts do I need in that case?

    Regards Josef

Only the type 4 engine was delegated to auto, I'd imagine it would be so underpowered it would be a mare, no idea how/if the engine would mount to the box but I guess it would?

  3. I'd imagine a 1600 would run out of puff.

  4. What's wrong with the 1800?
A 1600 won't make enough torque to keep going.

Ive no idea where you will get a flex plate?

  6. Just buy a 1600 gear box and rebuild the 1800 and sell it complete with Auto box, quid's in.

  7. The 1800 is in very bad condition and it is not so much more power from the start in the 1800.

Got a tip that Type 3 have a automatic with typ1-engine so many I can find a flex plate there.

Otherwise I will do a overhaul on the 1800 instead.

    It'll be absolutely gutless.

  9. An update.
I got hold of suitable flex plate and has now mounted the engine in the bus. Runs like a dream. Much better than before.
What was needed was a flexible plate from the Type 3 and the gland nut of the same car.

What happened to the 1800? I'm after a head. Ah - Sweden! Still looking for a head though...

Did you use the vac modulator from the T3 as well ?

  15. I don't have any vac installed on the gearbox. The vac unit on my gearbox is broken but it shifts good anyway. I have a extra gearbox I maybe will do a overhaul on in this winter.

Im not sure if the t2 or t3 would be better with your application??

  17. How did you fit the flex plate bolts,as the type 4 has a hole for that
