Hi all I'm not far off chucking the engine in. Thing is it hasn't been ran for 13 years the PO said it ran very nice before he pulled it out. I'm going to check the clutch plate before I put it in, and there's no end float play at all it also turns by hand very easy. Is there anything i should consider doing before it goes in or should i just chuck it in and see what it's like? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
One should only use this stuff. It's cheap enough at £134 a can. On à more serious note, do the valve clearances, plugs and points, and clean the carb out while it's all easy to get to.
Just put a new clutch and friction plate in anyway fella just incase it's a bitch if it plays up after fitting and your rear main oil seal too ...if it's been standing plastic seal could have gone hard and wear quick .....easy jobs both
You probably don’t mean there is no end float at all, but if they’re truly is nothing the engine will seize soon after you start it. Throw the pancake air filter over the fence, and if that is a 009 distributor throw that away too. Obviously service it with new plugs (and leads would be handy) before trying to start it.
And expect the aluminium rocker covers to leak too. That was a Beetle engine... You will lose driveability (hesitation ) in a bus without preheated air into the carb and without an SVDA distributor. Chuck a bit of oil down the spark plug holes and turn it over before running it to give the rings a chance to start sliding. Change the oil and check for water... the corrosion on the alternator is a sign it might not have been kept out of the rain...
Ok all this negativity your only left with fit a scooby lump but if you don’t have the skills just put a Porsche engine in it anyone can undo 4 bolts
So replace clutch or will it be fine? I don't even know if this engine is any good! Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
How thick is the material on the friction plate? You’ll need to clean the rust off the flywheel and pressure plate with fine emery and Scotchbrite, or they’ll shred any old or new friction plate.
