Did you know? I didn't. I've discussed with quite a few people over the years how a chest fridge would be more efficient than a front door one for obvious reasons : open the door, the cold air falls out, the thermostat kicks the motor in until it cools back down? It turns out we may well be deluded. That's not how they work at all, oh no - the temperature control is nothing of the sort - it's a variable timer - yep - it just goes on and off at regular intervals - say 10 mins/hour at 1, 20 mins at 2... funny they always end at 6? I never knew that.
£450 for a fridge you have to manually adjust to suit the ambient temperature? It sells itself on being efficient, but IMO that's just not trying, not to mention I'll have to remember to turn it up a bit on days I think I might be opening the door a lot or it's a bit sunny.
Dont have a fridge in my van. too much weight. cool box does the job. Couple of years back I took the fridge out of my son's T25 as it wasnt working. Easy I thought, connect it to a 12 volt battery. At the back some ice was forming, then stopped. Yes, the battery was flat within less than 5 minutes.
I have a fridge. It makes things cold and keeps them cold. Its quite useful for stopping perishables going off and keeping them fresh. It also keeps beer and soft drinks cold. Its fantastic. I have one in my camper too for the same reason. It doesnt flatten the battery cos its designed to run on gas or mains when the van isnt running to stop the battery going flat. Its easy to do. You run it through a relay so it only works on 12 volt when the engine is running. Damned clever stuff if your camping.
Its like a toaster though. I thought the dial meant 1 = white and 9 = black. apparently its minutes. But i think my numberwang colour chart is correct.
Does it claim to be "thermostatically controlled"? If it doesn't I'd guess it isn't as you won't pay for a part and not get some dvertising mileage out of it. Not aimed at you particularly.
