Just wondering if the 'VW123 Ignition' dizzy available from Vintage Speed will fit a CJ Type 4 engine - all the tech data only covers Types 1/2/3, oddly enough. Anyone any experience or thoughts? Ta.

  2. Yes, they fit

  3. Why are they soooooo expensive? Do they produce gold and diamonds?

Thanks Paul, any idea which mapping would be used? 1600?

They are certainly reassuringly expensive. If I ever get any refund from cancelling my less than satisfactory European roadside recovery policy I'm thinking of upgrading to something that will prevent breakdowns in the first place!

  5. wow they look posh

  6. double post don't what happened there o_O and now the double post has gone o_Oo_O

Only ever heard really good things.
One quote is "it'll make your engine run like a sewing machine."

  8. Oh they are for mapping an engine? In that case yes sweet. As long as the carbs etc dont go out of true;)

They come with selectable maps I think; or there's a self mapable one.

  10. Or you could go megajolt and do away with the dizzy altogether and have completely mapable ignition

  11. No they don't map your engine, in the sense of an engine management unit. With the USB-capable ones, you can load alternative ignition timing advance curves.

As far as I'm concerned they are the bees knees, no had a moments worry since I fitted one 3 years ago
Not cheap but worth every penny.

  15. Is that the 123-vw-r, 123-vw-v or 123-tune, you've been using?

  16. If you want to dude :)

    But is it worth doing/getting?

I want something that's mega reliable and I think you mentioned about getting something with a vac can.

Do you think we should get this over the other one you choose?

  18. I'm interested to hear if this is the best alternative distributor for a type 4?
