I admit my deal was unusual because I must have got near enough every Mercedes deal available and doubt I'll get the same deal next time.

It did cost me an extra £100 initially though as I sent a decent bottle of champers to the sales guy to say thanks

    It isn't that unusual.
Some of the deals put up on VZi are staggeringly cheap!
Apparently the thing to do when looking for a lease is to not look for a specific car, but to search cars by size etc as limited time offers will come up that you wouldn't otherwise have seen if for example you searched for a Golf.

  5. = £3500

I could buy a whole heap of interesting motors over four years for that money.
My Scirocco cost £400 five years ago and has been serviced regularly and always wears nice new boots.

And if I get bored, I'll sell it and play in an old Jaguar/Alfa/Laguna until it goes pop.

  7. I haven't read all this thread so please excuse me if I've missed something crucial

If you are self employed and 'lease' a car you should be able to off set 90% of the monthly 'rental' payments against your profits. So it can be a very efficient way of driving a new car very cost effectively

Get proper advice from your accountant first though.

I had brand new company cars every few months for about 10 years. One day I bought my mate a £50 scrapper, I drove it home up the motorway and remember thinking it isn't quite as good as my company car, but it definitely wasn't £16,950 worse than it!

I wouldn't spend my own cash on a new or nearly new vehicle. I've spent the last 8 years happily driving a year 2000 Audi A3, it is worth f all but I love it.

  8. I thought you just did it on mileage - the mileage allowance covering assumed running costs (and being fairly generous). Could be wrong though... I'd imagine you can't do both.

  9. When my polo packs up I am definitely doing the contract leasing, get a new car, cheap monthly payments etc. Presumably that's why there are so many new high cost cars out there, people are leasing them.

  10. There are various ways of offsetting the motoring cost against profit. I'm certainly not an expert and people should consult with their accountants before committing.

Renting (PCP) a car is very different to buying one (cash or hpi) in terms of how much you can offset against your profits on hpi. For some self employed people a car on a PCP can be a very tax efficient way of motoring. Accountants should be able to advise on what is the most tax efficient way of motoring for your individual circumstances.

  12. Some great deals there...

newbie question - what does £300+9+17 mean?

  13. Baysearcher

    Baysearcher [secret moderator]

    Not such a good deal!

The £300 +9 is the deposit so £300 + 9 monthly payments deposit, followed by 17 months lease.

  14. do you have to clean out these cars before returning them?

    ca'nt got wrong @67 pound a month..:hattip:

  15. Not ideal right now but the SEAT Ibiza or Fiat 500 looks cool at £93+

    Good site, cheers.

  16. Oh right!! so about £1500 deposit then if £93 pm for 24. Is that right?

Could buy a car for that

Leasing is a flash in the pan, but fantastic value at the moment. As @Barneyrubble pointed out a couple of pages ago, the wheels of industry must keep turning, the european car market has been realatively dead compared to the uk, so the uk has been awash with cheap lease deals as we have been the only ones remotely interested.
great stuff, but it won't last forever. :)

A leasing crash is forecast like a housing crash, but when it'll happen nobody knows, meanwhile fill your boots if you like nice new cars.

  18. So we decided to go for the best car we liked with the money we had. The Volvo V50 was really nice but we preferred this Saab. Pretty much all Saab service history stamps, no expense spared, all major work carried out with receipts. It is a really nice car.
Not owned a Saab before but I know they share a lot with Vauxhall so cheap enough to maintain should it need anything.
I don't really need an estate car all the time I have convinced myself, but the OH does really what with the kids activities. So she will drive it but if I need to borrow it I can car swap with her.
We got this on a credit card which will be paid off in the next 6 months when our house is sold. Didn't fancy lease just now, not when we can have this paid off very soon.

Job Jobbed in our eyes. We are happy. She's over the moon :D

Thank's for all your replies. Very helpful.

  20. is that a 9.3? if so I still have some roof bars for a 9.3 saloon (not sure if they fit the estate), I used to have one up until 2006 a petrol one, did 115,000 miles in it, I liked it. Must sell these roof bars ... if you are interested let me know ... otherwise I really should eBay them.
