Installed a SpaceRoof in a Late Bay?

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by DougB, May 21, 2015.

  1. Hello all,

I'm interested in connecting with folks who have installed (or had installed) SpaceRoof conversions on their late Bays (e.g. '74 and on). I'll be putting one on my '75 soon (done too much work on it over the years to abandon it for an existing pop-top) and would love to see how people treated the ceiling and top locker/rear hinge area.

Also interested in hearing about any advice or tips that people may have that aren't covered in the SpaceRoof instructions (which Pete/Sam already supplied to me).

    Many thanks in advance!

Hey mate. Our van has a SpaceRoof fitted (I didn't do it though). Ours is a little different though as our tintop was shot so we had a westy tintop fitted. I'm more than happy to take any pictures you might need.

  3. Thanks, James! If you have a ceiling/headlining that trims the area around the roof opening nicely I'd love to see that. I'm just wondering what kind of hard headliner I can use, and how I might have to cut it. I currently have the '75 tin-top style hard, white headliner, with the aluminum strips that separate the major sections of it. It would be great if I could keep the front one, remove and save the middle and rear ones (since they're originals) and replace them with a suitable substitute I can cut and refinish to match the original front.

An general, after combing over all of the images on the SpaceRoof site, pictures of people's ceilings and top locker treatments are the ones I'd love to see the most.

    Thanks again!

  4. We did one at work but fitted a fabric headlining.

Ah, we've nothing in at the moment! Planning to go with a ply headliner over the cab and then the fabric that came with the kit down the sides. Rear will be hidden by a locker (when I get round to it, it's a loooong way down the list!).

  7. They're a company that make new pop top roofs, the bay one is similar to a late westfalia roof

  11. So now that that's settled ;-)

I managed to find the flat top "top locker" so I'm all set for how to cover the rear hinge area the proper way...but for anyone who has had or has installed a Space Roof (the rear-hinging Westy style) on their own, I wanted to hear how you did your top headliner. For example, are stock celing panels, for pop-top Westies, the right dimensions? If not, what did you use?

    Many thanks in advance!
