1973 VW WESTFALIA CONTINENTAL RHD TAX FREE RESTORED

  1. Expanded family and the purchase of a VW LT Camper means it’s time to sell my beloved VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental Camper. It's genuine UK right hand drive model.

I bought the camper back in 2008 and had it completely restored over 2009/2010 by Carlos at The Hotworks in Tring.

You can see lots of photo of the van's restoration on The Hotworks website -http://www.thehotworks.com/gallery?g2_itemId=162

I also have huge photo album in hard copy and on CDs cover the entire process (100s of photos - literally).

As you will see it had a lot of new panels, doors and floor sections, window rubbers, door seals, wing mirrors, refurbed door locks on 1 key, mirrors, badges, etc. Following which it had a bear metal respray in a VW blue that was available in 1973 (I'm a bit anal!).

It’s been garaged all year round when not in use ever since – I've ever used it in the summer really.

Following the paint it had a full waxoil sprayed into all the doors, box sections and floors. I really couldn't face ever doing the bodywork again!

The original wheels were powder coated, with new chrome hub caps and Firestone Vanhawk tyres

On the mechanicals side - it’s still running the original Type 1 1600cc engine and gearbox. The engine had a recon just before I bought the van and runs like a dream. I've tried to keep the van as standard as possible with just few upgrades.

    Electronic ignition & Flame-Thrower Coil

New Empi/Solex Carb (which is superb!)

New Half shafts & Universal Joints

New Front Disc Brake Callipers & Rear Drum Pistons

Firetech Fully Automatic Engine Bay Fire Extinguisher

Spilt Changer & Leisure Battery – runs water, lights etc.

Empi Quickshift Gearstick (comes with OME stick too)

    5 New seats fitted - rear has 2 x 3-point belts and 1 x lap belt

Golden Ash "Buddy Box" between seats

Oil change and filter clean every 9 months (1000 miles or so)

As far as the interior is concerned it’s pretty much 100% original Westfalia, with the rock n roll double bed, and double/large single bed in the roof. It has the original Westfalia fold out cooker, cool box, sink (with electric pump), table, spice rack, wardrobe, and overhead cupboard. It also has the original fully complete Westfalia mustard cloth on the rear seats/beds, spare wheel cover and bolster insert– which is all in very good condition.

The pop up roof was repainted and had brand new GoWesty (top quality from USA) canvas with 3 zipped windows fitted.

Up front again it’s pretty much all original, save for the slightly later Type seats (they have head rests so are a bit safer). It I’ve not touched the dash and have left it original, apart from a stereo/fold-out DVD head unit and electric windscreen washer.

As you might imagine it comes with a massive stack of history and receipts – so much has been done I could fill a book!

Just had a new MOT (to 2 May 2016) and it's Road Tax Free.

Any questions or to arrange view please give me a call 07738 153 898. based in Berkhamsted Herts. Will be available for viewing from about 7 May onwards.

    £22,500 ono.
