Vinnie resto update

  1. Hello all

Vinnie is currently being part restored down in Camelford, Cornwall. He has had new sills, front & rear arches, various bits of chassis, new engine lid.

The interior is all being painted white so that I can do Silentcoat, insulate, then build back the interior plus got some MGF seats for £80 :)

I am not sure what the current colour is officially, maybe similar to Reef Blue but I need some advice and opinions from you guys on the new paint. I still need new doors, front and sliding door but due to budget this will have to wait until next year. So do I paint the new bits that have been done now the same colour as existing (bodyshop guy says he cant guarantee it will be indentical 100%), or bearing mind I want to colour change in the end do I have it done in the new colour now and subsequently repaint the doors and front in due course?

    My colour thoughts are :

    1) Vauxhall Atlantic blue (quite dark and the body guy says he thinks light colours look better)
    2) Baby blue (I like it but it seems quite common / popular now but a safe choice
    3) Lime green
    4) Cream with red interior (saw one in magazine which was BMW Pepper white but my lady friend says its boring)
    5) Not keen on yellow / orange / brown / red no offence to those out there guys!

    Or any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Tris

  2. Like either the green or the magnolia with red interior idea :)

  3. Thanks - anyone got either of these colour combos? Front seats are grey so will go with anything and future will be Rusty Lee R&R bed plus 2x buddy seats so they can be trimmed to match.......

  4. Just seen a pearl white over Turkis on a thread here (search T2 ). @berpit's bus. Not keen on the interior though but each to his own.

  5.
  6. just noticed the forum auto word changes :D:D- magnolia was meant to be kreem !

  7. I know it's redish but how about Black Cherry, remember a Mk1 Escort done in it years ago and look pretty good?

Or another red, I've seen quite a few new Renaults in like a candy red (nice and shiney)

Lime green seems nice. As one solid colour or cream/white top half?

  8. Pastel white over Elm Green is a good looking combo. Although I'm slightly biased in my opinion.

  9. Is that what you have got? Any pics ?

  12. Sorry mate. Absolutely love the exterior but the interior is not for me. No offence meant:hattip:

  13. Fair do's Snooze ;) but the link made no reference to the interior, but as you say interior replicating the exterior for most, something else for the rest - each to his/her own :)

  14. I like it - definitely in the shortlist - unusual colour but kind of natural and at one with the surroundings (without sounding too hippyish)

With regards to matching paints, there are companies who match your current paint colour by using a device that scans your existing paint. It takes into consideration the paint fade over the years as well. The scanner is put through a computer which scans through millions of colours then gives you the best match, it will then add / subtract the mix to match your paint. I had a car matched and the match from the computer gave me a paint of 99.9% match. Once sprayed on the car you could not tell the difference, this car was a difficult paint to match can be done with custom paint jobs etc. the company I used was in kent. This is the car below with the wheel arch repaired and painted. They can also make you spray cans up. Whole tub of paint for spraying cost me £40 and the match process only took 15 mins.
