Why are you talking about changing the sleeve? They haven't even taken the top apart. Getting to where yours is now took me the best part of a week. Just had another look at the pics, you're cheating you haven't taken the glass out, the furniture's still in. I completely gutted mine so nothing was damaged during the welding. *sigh* why do I ALWAYS do things the hard way?
I didn't know if welding would be needed so I left the interior in. I'll probably head over in the next few days and whip it out to save them having to protect it properly! He said not to bother taking the windows out as they'll use "window tape" to hold the front screen seal out of the way apparently.
I knew my roof was full of holes as water came in when it rained so I knew it would need welding and I also knew that four years ago I'd done some temporary repairs to, (bodged), the windscreen surround and one of the rear windows, so at least I knew the size of the job this time.
Collected the new bellows this evening and took it down to the workshop. This is what the roof looks like now it's been cleaned off and attacked with a nylon disc:
Oh no that doesn't look too good I've got to do my Aussie top soon what did it look like before the paint was removed?
Go back a page! it looked much worse before it was cleaned up! I'm quite happy with that as it's the first time it's been off in almost 40 years.
Beat me to it! I've just had a new canvas made locally and it looks like he's done a top job for a really good price! Let me know if you want his details.
Near side cleaned up, cut out and tacked in: The strengthener inside was solid. Bottom part of roof repaired, shaped and in primer. Happy days
Been down there today with @Mattlad to cut some strengtheners to glass into the roof cap: Part of roof repaired and in primer:
That looks really good ,need to sort mine out at some point but it's really touch and go with it ,prob better getting a second hand one.
^^^ that part was knackered mate. Worn right through on all 4 corners and various other holes and cracks. Peels have done a top job so far.
The sliding door repair has been done too. Only saw it through the spray-booth door but looked bang on!
If that pic shows the worst of the corrosion it was in a better shape than my roof. Why did you put the wooden strengtheners in the top, was the cap broken?
