My daughter was left a bit of money from her grandmother and so we bought the above in 2008. It has a type 4 engine and is ex California and so no rust.

A local guy (Carl Taylor) did the bodywork and much of the mechanicals and I did the interior. I have a timber business and so I got my joiner to copy the original Westfalia units using their handles, hinges and catches.
The engine was "reconditioned" at this time but was not a good job and so after a while we obtained parts from Stateside tuning and rebuilt it again. It's now ok after fitting an external oil cooler.
The van has been to Brittany twice, Annecy in the French Alps and up to the Lakes a few times.

A really nice looking van, was it originally white at the top or a change made by you as I quite like the look?

  7. Looks good - ours is white and now contemplating whether to change to a colour

  8. Mines predominantly white with some browny-red patches. Would love to get it back to all white!

  9. Lovely. Give me inspiration as mine is the identical layout.

    Hi again.
I'll post a few pics over the next few days of some of the mods I have made.
1st is a hole for the fuel tank sender, not for the purists I know but as we are keeping the van forever i decided that it was worthwhile when we had gauge problems.

  11. Lovely van, the same as ours.

  12. The engine was getting a bit hot on long motorway runs (240 degrees F) and so I added this oil cooler.
Two sandwich plate are needed above the filter to get below the pushrod tubes and then piped to the 180 degree thermostat mounted in the chassis member, the to the cooler. It now runs at about 190 - 200 deg F.
