Tinware warm air pipe to air filter Info

  1. I'm in the process of changing H/E's and Exhaust system and some tinware, I've noticed that there is a facility for fitting a warm air pipe (OEM 113-119-519G) to connect to the air filter from the rear engine tinware, mine was missing with the hole in the rear tin taped over, is this worthwhile fitting a new one £21 ish from JK, or does it make no difference?

  2. depends on which exhaust your fitting and which carb you have, i have a pipe connected but still get carb icing/condensation.
seen your bus parked outside your house while passing....

  3. Remove and clean out the carbon from the manifold to exhaust preheat
A soak in kero and an old clutch cable in a drill will do it with some time and effort

  5. Wendy, got a stock Solex Pict 34 carb and fitting a stock exhaust, not experienced icing or condensation in carb yet and all looks ok, just wondered if it should have it on. Pop in some time for a brew if you've time.

Icing and fuel puddles in the manifold.

Sometimes you dont know it is a problem until you fix it and the bus runs better.
Especially a problem when you mistakenly fit a shiiiiny pancake air filter.

  7. Well worth fitting, my Nigerian Bus was not equipped with this pipe, the first cold damp autumn morning, after importing it to England, the engine cut out at the bottom of a long hill due to carb. iceing.
Typically, engine quietly dies, then refuses to restart, if left 5 minutes immediately bursts into life as if nothing happened.
I codged together the parts required, and connected to the plastic air intake/ filter assy.
    Never had a problem since!

  8. I've a 2.0fi and also the heat riser hole, in the winter I fit the pipe and in the summer remove and bung the hole, also the little thermostate in the filter intake neck does not work so open all the time. Runs much better from cold in the winter!

  9. Cheers for info folks, think I will give it a go.
