Wanted Tailgate hinge mechanism.

  1. Would also consider rear roof cut with hinges still attached or any links to where I can buy hinges or parts.
    Thanks
    Jane

  2. Spotted one on ebay earlier but can't find it now

Try FBI VW, Megabug, there are lots of others. Try @Paul Weeding who is breaking a van, and there's also another being broken in the classified's on here.

  4. The whole lot with the spring mech? Is that what you're looking for @janerodger ?

  5. Yes the whole thing. One side of mine won't spring back so I can't shut my tailgate.

    Post some pics Jane.

  7. Agreed... Pop some pics up as the spring mech might've popped apart...

  8. I'll try and take some but can't open the tailgate as it takes 3 people to close it and tie it shut again.

  9. have you got a rear over head locker , if so drop that off from inside without opening door , easier to get at for pics and fixing if its popped out .

  10. Ok... Now I'm really confused... Why isn't the latch holding it shut??

Can you give us a run down of what it is and isn't doing?? :)

sounds like a hinge spring is trapped or broken? i'd do what barney said and look from inside something is out of line or catching?

  12. ps if you have acouple of large ratchet clamps n g clamp ,they come in handy if it has popped out .

  13. The hinge attached to the actual roof won't stay pulled back. My mechanic has used some tools to pull it back but it won't stay back it just springs forward again at force. I came home one day and found the tailgate open and up so wonder if it had been damaged. Can't see anything obvious or broken.

Confusing. Both sides should look the same obviously. I could fix it. :)

  15. I agree with zed, it sounds like something has come adrift, and it needs putting back correctly!! :)

I'm betting the spring needs removing to straighten something and maybe that's trapped in a cupboard/headlining making an apparently simple job a bit more than meets the eye. If it's behind a brittle OG fabric headlining...

  17. I came home to find the tailgate up and open. I forced it closed and the tailgate hinge snapped.
Mechanic came to weld it but couldn't because the spring mechanism in the roof bit is sprung forward and will not go back and stay back even under pressure. The other side is working fine.

  18. There is nothing looking obviously out of place or broken.

  19. Are you anywhere near me?
