Getting over spray off a rubber seal

  1. Evening all.

what is the best way to get dry overspray off a rubber seal? Its the engine lid seal. don't really want to buy a new one if I can help it.

  2. t cut may work?

  3. take the seal off, get some brass wool or soft wire wool and a bit of nitromors....it's OK on rubber

  4. worth a try. I was thinking thinners would destroy the seal.

  5. Cheers guys. good to be back.

  6. You can rub the seal with a scotch pad too... usually works quite well

  7. Have some of those also, cheers Paul. lesson 1. Be better at masking up.

  8. I've used nitromors on rubber seals before with no ill effect...do a test first though.....different seals may react differently

  9. I would avoid thinners in case any got onto the paint. Brake cleaning fluid might be worth a try.

  10. No thinners would be ok. If you use a good quality 2k thinner. That's how I would do it. But the best way would have to removed the seal and masked the gap up.

  11. Thinners on a damp cloth

  12. Thinners used sparingly .
    failing that ....
    butter.
    :hattip:

  13. Butter????

  14. Lard would be better ;)

  15. Or jam...

  16. Thinners:)

  17. its done. used a slightly damp cloth and a touch of thinners. for some reason the butter didn't work.
