I insured my bus with carol nash , myself, my 2 daughters one of which is a mature student , £230 . This was almost 6 week ago
Had a call from carol nash today stating that the insurance company will not insure the daughter whis is a student (28 yrs old 10 years claims free)
They offered to take daughter off policy and refund 13 pounds, or alternatively give a 100 percent refund
The refund is a generous offer in my opinion and the option i took as i want both daughters on my policy
However i would like proples opinion on how the conversation was concluded , as follows

i asked when would the policy now expire , he said immediatly , i asked when will i get my money , the reply was within 3 to 10 days.
I thought for a short while and explained that as my policy only commenced upon immediate payment from my account , i only accept that the policy to be cancelled when i have the money in my account .
As i have no spare cash to purchase another policy until i have the money refunded and in my account to buy another policy
, then i repeated that i only accept the cancellation once i have my money and that if i am in a position that i need to claim i would be submitting a claim to carol nash , if i have not received my money into my account .
This was the gist of the conversation for a short time , ultimatly concluding that we dissagreed with each others opinion of when the policy is ended. .

Is it just me who agrees with this attitude of mine or do people think that carol nash is right,

I know technically its a legal minefield and hope never to have to test it but in principal am i expecting a little too much of someone who has my hard earnt .

    Over to you

Further this isnt a dig at the company i genuinly believe their offer of a refund in full is very generous , i just queery how they can hold my money and cancel the policy after agreeing to term when taken out

I like your stance, but you have no chance. They have computer to cancel policy, they have your money. 3-10 days in unacceptable though. I'd have pressed for immediate payment rather than the policy carrying on.

  3. I think companies say that sort of time frame as it can take that long for transaction to go through. Companies normally only do 'banking ' runs once or twice a week. Just my guess

True, but they're just lazy, press them and they'll usually get off their chair and sort it out. :)
I insured the car recently, forgot to sign some declaration and a couple of weeks later they cancelled the policy and kept £60.

The chap did comment that its the banking system that takes the time ......... Funny how its instantanious when they take the money for payment , it gets to them double quick .
As above i hope i dont have to test the situation but i have a attitude that just because someone says -effectively- this is how it is , then sometimes its good to challenge the comments to establish the validy of what they state , in other words , just because someone states something, it doesnt mean its true,

  6. Grab their offer with both hands, go to compare the market, my insurance was £78 and got free baby oleg limited edition safari, which are listed around £70 on ebay so upshot is almost free insurance.
In my opinion you wont get better offer from insurance companies, but good luck

Did you queery how they can keep the £60',
As above , just cause they state they are keeping the money i would want in writing the explination why, and if not supplied with such a letter i would claim the money back

I probably didn't even open it, I only open cellophane window type letters once every 3 months or so.

Try to be an honest and good person in everything
    Then get shafted the most

By law they have to give you a full refund if its within the first 30 days

  11. hi their first quote was based on a policy with 4 years no claims bonus, far too high !!!! pressed the insurance providors and they said they could offer one with no claims entitlement either supplied or earnt and that was the £78 annual premium, downside is no matter how long i keep it i cant surrender it or accrue any no claims but for the cost i was quite happy, p.s. max mileage is 5000 per annum
good luck, and if this helps and you get a baby oleg my daughter asked can she have him !!!! he will be going to a very good home lol

  12. Banking system taking its time what a load off balloni.

Funny when i take something back to Asda which has been paid via paypal while at the till i get a text saying payment has been refunded by asda then as i leave the till paypal text to say that the money has back onto my account get home later in the day to check and its there.

A small thing from the Direct Debit Guarantee,
    • If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society
Now if they can do it why can't it apply to everything paid via debit/ Credit card.

Just been onto compare the market, (ive been busy ) first of all the system doesn't recognize my reg number , and when i try to describe it under the drop down options i cant find owt that fits my 1973 camper . i am stuck a little here then unless any advise follows from your good selves.

plus i haven't got my money back from carol nash yet but i have received a letter from them today informing me my policy was cancelled on the 16th , and they want me to return my certificate in a supplied addressed envelope and put a stamp on it (cheeky buggers) however my documents were only ever in electronic email format so ive nowt to send back.

edit -- i have just seem a warning on go compare site that they only go back as far as 1970 so looks as though im out of luck with them.

looked at heritage and filled loads of details , after about 20 mins , and close to the end it asks if daughters have a vehicle of their own , when i state no it advises they must have an alternate vehicle of their own and so cannot proceed
thats another 20 mins plus of my life i will never get back ...again

  14. I had similar issues but their underwriter contacted me post application and that's when the insurance was taken out

  15. I had a similar experience with Carole Nash in July - I was gobsmacked and genuinely thought it was a scam to begin with.

With enough phoning and errr ever louder complaining(it took them well over the three to five days they said it would to refund me and it seriously threatened my mortgage payment that I'd bought new insurance and not been refunded by them, so I suggested they might like to pay my bank charges, or my mortgage themselves...) and they referred it up to a Director (or so they said) and funnily enough the refund was in my bank account by the end of that day.

I posted about it back in July, if you want to look back and read about it (they suddenly found my policy wasn't on an active backend policy or some such crap, rather than a student being the excuse). It caused me all manner of stress I didn't need and I would never recommend them to anyone again because of it.

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

The delay in payment refund is crap as it's just a holding on to your money a bit longer for their gain.

    You're not wrong.

  18. In these days of the 'faster payment' system, money can be moved between bank accounts within 2 hours, even when those accounts are in completely different banks. All this '3 to 10 days' nonsense is because they can't be arsed to do it quicker. If sufficiently motivated, they can get your money back to you quicker, they just choose not to.

  19. Why won't they insure a student? They sold u the policy.... Carol nash's problem! Immediate refund!

I wonder why they have such a time delay on deciding the info that was acceptable when you took out the policy has become unacceptable? I've always found carole Nash good and recommended them but it seems they can be a bit poo at times. At least they offer full refunds.
The insurer I used when I came back from living in Spain allowed some of my no claims bonus to be used from there, about 2 yrs of 8 and I has full ncb before I went. I've forgotten the name but it was a motorhome insurer.
The next year I sold my t4 camper and bought a skoda and they would no longer offer me ncb and said it didn't count, and 1st year was only cos I had a camper. They then quoted me £600 odd for fully comp - the car was only £650! I'm 49 and only claimed once about 25 yrs ago  so much for EU fluidity! (And as for my Spanish pension  !!)

Hope you get another one sorted @Sproggy4830
