  1. You did use the words "Essex" and "neurosurgeon" in the same sentence, there o_O. Did he have white socks under his scrubs?

Both my knees are knackered from years of landscaping and contact sports so I'm going to need them sorting at some point. @hailfrank can tell you about the cons of knee surgery. Let's just hope that yours is one of the success stories buddy : thumbsup:

A knee replacement is more straightforward than what I had. I was in for a week and was amazed to see numerous people go in and out within a day or two, and they all walked out!

I had months off work and it the recovery was a nightmare. However best op ever!

How good is you good knee as it'll take a battering during recovery...

Have a read about what you can do Pre op, there are lots of positive things you can do that will shave time off your overall recovery time...stretching being foremost...if the rest of your joints have a good range of motion trips to the physio will be less arduous.

Stating the obvious, the less weight it has to bear is also beneficial and have a look at what you can do diet wise to boost your immune system (my mums knee replacement was ruined be an infection, her other one was perfect and still is, the first one still gives gip).

Also have a read about what other people have done in terms of modifying the house furniture even if it's short term, e.g. I bought one of those chairs that electrically tilts and lifts for £90 off eBay as I knew I'd have issues lying down on a bed after the op I had last year, which was a godsend as I slept on it for a good two weeks afterwards, could not have managed the bed believe me...and I imagine I'd get around £90 back when I sell it on.

  8. I've got slap knee and slap shoulder on both shoulders.... torn bicep from shoulder. I have private medical thru work, saw a doc had an mri and they said they will operate. I've still not gone back.
only hurts when i do something.
So i have decided to do nothing!

  9. Don't go to your GP yet. Sign op for BUPA or similar where a medical is not required. Will cost about £1k for a year. When you have the policy in hand then go to the quack. Get him to refer you, you'll have a consultation next day as opposed to waiting 6 months. If they determine you have to have a replacement it will be sorted within the next few weeks, not 2 years. Your treatment will be done in an NHS hospital 9x out of 10, by the same NHS surgeon. Your after care will be in a private hospital more like a 7 star hotel where you'll get champagne for breakfast. You can then sit back and relax

I know you're 'old' Malc but you're probably too young for a knee replacement.
    :)
