Me mum texted to say Eastbourne Pier being totally destroyed by fire as she spoke sat on seafront with my aunty having a birthday lunch , daughter just text to say 45 fire engines and life boat cant contain it . Spent half my childhood and teens on that pier fishing and having fun. When will they ever learn , no sprinkler systems of pumping direct from the sea below gutted me too!! No reports of injuries luckily ??
What a shame, its sad when something thats been around for so long goes, especially when its been part of your life. Maybe they will build a new one?
That's really sad. The old piers are an integral part of seaside towns. I wonder how many are left now (and still in use).
Makes you wonder how many are actual accidents , failed businesses no chance of selling , cost millions to redevelop etc
I presume you are thinking of Brighton West pier? Its always amazed me that the final burn down of that piers structure was apparently attributed to either a starling or seagull being careless with a lit cigarette.
