Do you want to see an engine modification area in mech tech?

?

Would you like to see a section in Mech. Tech dedicated to engine conversions and modifications?

  1. Yes

    44.1%
  2. No

    8.5%
  3. Yes, dedicated areas for watercooled and aircooled conversions

    35.6%
  4. Yes, aircooled only

    11.9%
  1. There have been a lot of different threads about this, alternatives such as subaru conversions, type 1 modifications, type 4 modifications etc. There are lot of resources but they're spread all over the site so you need to search for it. VWKD is all but dead, the requests for a specific area have either fallen on deaf ears or not been requested in the right way.

So, please vote below, lets get some answers then take the question to the site moderators if required.

  2. This would be really good!
Imho tlb could do with more different sections like electrical, interior, exterior and so on.
I think it would reduce the amount the same topic would be posted like the oil topic.

  3. I tend to look to 'shop talk forum' or john maher's site, for any mods or technical info beyond the scope of standard stuff...
personally, i like the idea that there's a lot of cross referencing and alternative searching for elusive tech info...it takes you to places you wouldn't come across normally

  4. Not a bad idea for engines. I'd avoid splitting other stuff up into separate areas. Other forums have tried this, and I think stuff just gets too fragmented (IMHO).

  5. Alternative engine part of the forum? ... Yes please

  8. We suggested something similar a little while ago @Joker - Good luck! ;)

If there's a part of this forum that I'm not interested in I don't visit it, for instance..
I'm not going to fit a cooker in my bus so I don't visit the "can cook will cook" part of this forum.. But i understand that a lot of members do have a cooker in their bus so appreciate the information in that part of the site.

On the other hand I am going to fit a Subaru engine in my bus and I am interested in learning from others.

This is a great place to chat, maybe meet new friends but most of all it's a place of knowledge, where we can share our experiences and wisdom.

  16. I dont have an issue with repeated topics. This is what keeps a forum alive. If we could find a way of stopping repeat questions, then slowly it would become a static bulletin board.

As said above repeat questions are a sign of new blood on a forum/topic.

I have notice more and more mech questions in general of late, is mech not getting the views/lookers?

  18. Its specifically look at either engine modifications, hypo engines and alternatives. Hence the vote... Mech tech is good as it is as the forum for general questions just looking for somewhere where us who want to modify and learn from others can have specific discussions and where they're all easy to find. As Ricky says, modifications are not for everyone

  19. Think its more a case of ignoring/not noticing the forum sub divisions....it happens on other forums too.
