RM122 Fridge install help

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by ketbag, Jul 22, 2014.

  1. Hi guys, so i've got an RM122 12v/Gas, rigging up for the first time and in the hope it works! I've rigged the gas bit up but i'm a little confused with the 12v cabling.

There is a chock block at the back which connects to two black cables that disappear into the fridge...no indication which is live/natural... can anyone advise? Also cable ratings and fusing rating would be helpful.

    Cheers

  2. The electric part of the fridge is a heater element, so polarity doesn't matter

The current draw is quite large, make sure the cabling is appropriately rated and the circuit is fused.

Wire the fridge in via a relay in a way which means it can only work when the engine is running.

Bench test the fridge before putting in the effort of installing it. Run it on a spare battery/charger overnight to see it's running properly. It'll take a couple of hours to get cold.

There's also two smaller 12v wires which connect to the gas ignition switch. The polarity on these is important so you must get the +ve and -ve the right way round. However, the current draw is negligable so you can leave this permanently connected to your leisure battery.

  4. Cheers chaps. So to confirm, the chock block on the back, it doesn't matter which way round the positive and negative goes (my understanding of polarity). I've got a load of 2.5 twin and earth multicore rated to 32amps so I take it that should do (minus the earth). I have read that this should be fused at 15amp...I think?!

I was planning to have this on its own switch from the leisure battery fed aux fuse box which I can switch on when in motion, I have a split charge in place....I hope it tops the leisure up enough.

@MK-Bay mine has a Piezo ignition so I don't think it has this, but cheers for the heads up mate.

don't use twin and earth use flex

  7. Hi @matty When you say flex, do you mean multi-strand? The twin and earth I have is multi-strand flex, not solid core as per house hold wall sockets.

    Any good mate?
