Door lock

  1. Hi all.

Wondered if anyone out there could point me the right way on the subject of door locks!!! More specifically with the fact that my drivers side lock has given up the ghost.

I think the lock mechanism must still be ok as the door will lock/unlock from the inside however when I try to lock/unlock using the key I get no joy.

Has anyone had experience of this, I guess a new lock barrel is needed but didn't know if it's possible to just replace the barrel or is it the whole handle?? Also is it a particularly tricky job??

Thanks in advance for any help and who knows maybe when I've had the van for 10 or 15 years I might actually be able to offer some advice to a newcomer in return!!!!

  2. ive got two front door handles/locks and a sliding door hand/combined lock to do so will watch with interest as currently only have a good outside lock on the rear talgate and have to lock from the inside elsewhere! lolol im used to it but must get the locks sorted. Ive seen threads on line somewhere as people can change the mechanism to fit one key but have yet to find a you tube or other that takes you through the removal process or the lock and door handle process and have been prioritising elsewhere so havent had the time to read the manual. The bentleys manual does cover it as ive downloaded in preparation (for free!) but not sure in practice how easy it is :)

  3. does the key turn?

if it does, it might be the 'lever' on the back of the handle has come loose or dropped off

If the key doesnt turn, then either the key/lock is worn so they dont work together, or it is gummed up with years of dirt.

re-keying the lock is an easy (but a little fiddly) job

  4. The key does turn in the lock, I've had the door card off and tried to look on the inside. It looks as if the mechanism is turning but not engaging, would this be the 'lever' coming loose???

  5. PIE

    PIE

There is a lever that screws on the rear that operates the lock and holds the barrel in, the nuts probably come undone or the barrel may have fractured, easy fixes both.

  6. there are 2 allen head screws that hold the door handle on, take the door card off (remove the winder handle & inner door pull etc), and you should be able to find the screws that hold the handle on.

remove handle and check the leaver is attached and moves with the key - if it does move it could be the latch lock mechanism attached to the door that is the problem ....its an easy job to take the handle off and eliminate it as the problem
