That's what is so good about VWs, there are so many way to individualise them. I love the look of mine. It's how I visualised it would be all those years ago except it's not orange and white. Or green and white. Or beige and brown. I never saw yellow in my dreams :)

  2. I suspect you have made up your mind and were hoping for every one to say go on do it

....why else would you have already bought panels to fit low lights ;) :D

as the others have said, its your bus, do what you want with it and dont worry about what any one else thinks

Bear in mind, its not just a case of changing the lower front panel and job done (I suspect you already know this) - the low light inner valances are a crap fit, you are better off modifying the late/crossover inner front valance, then you have to make the low light indicator brackets (or get a body cut), blank the high indicator positions, get new early front grill (unless you blank yours), re do some of the indicator wiring to reach the new position.....and obviously the lower front panel

If you also want early bumpers, you will have to buy them, new bumper brackets front and rear, weld in captive nuts for the side steps into the lower front arches, make front bumper mounting arrangements for the brackets to fit to the chassis legs

....and it goes with out saying - repair all the rust/holes you have uncovered in the process

if you want to do it, then go for it

Remember though You already have a very desirable late crossover or one year only type 2b of the first late production run. A unique model is the 73 model year bus.

  4. the inside and engine's going to be different for sure! subaru 2.5 and a cinema screen with 2
Thanks for the info. I knew most of the above but what's the captive nuts for side steps for?

Still not made my mind up! I have about 3 days left to decide

  5. Keep it original in my opinion. These are becoming like antiques and no doubt the purists out there would pick it up. I prefer the look of lates. That why I bought one, get an early if you want low indicators because it a bloody lot of work and trust me there will be a lot more to do other than this.

  6. Captive nuts will be to hold the side steps of the early bumper to the front arch step you will need 2 per side .....and captive nuts for the front bumper brackets to mount to the chassis

Like the sound of the cinema

I like earlies, I like lates, I like crossovers. I like them for what they are. To make one a bit of one and a bit of another seems like something you might do if you couldn't get the right bits.

Bodyworkwise, the jobs I most enjoy are reversing changes made previously back to how they were originally. And reinstating the quirky stuff like pump-up washers.

But that's just me, it's your bus.

I would say either keep it standard, or if you go custom, put something discreet in the bumpers and keep the front panel smooth. T5 / Golf side repeaters work well for that sort of thing...[IMG]

Ok, its a Beetle, but you get the idea..

  10. Rabbit ears like a Beardmore taxi (although according to my ex-cabbie Dad they were known as "Mickey Mouses" in the trade).

  14. I'm loosing them completely on my bus. I'll either fit them in the front bumper (prototype bay) or in the headlights
