FOR SALE 1979 - Fresh out of Resto - 2ltr - 83k - Lot of Pics - £10k

  1. I recently purchased this van for family holidays this year as I thought I wouldn't get my long term project finished in time and didn't want to witness the wrath of my family if the camper wasn't ready for their holibobs! By some miracle/ help from friends I've managed to get my prototype bay MOT'd and fit(ish) for camping.

So this barely used since reasto shiny baby is up for grabs and I'm talking less than 30 miles since resto complete. Hopefully the photo's will show you just how clean and straight this bus is. It is a 1979 with 3 previous owners and 83k on the clock with pretty much all previous MOT's to back this up. The resto was started in 2008 and hasn't been on the road until now. I have the MOT booked for tomorrow (22/7) along with engine tune-up although it runs sweet and pulls like a train. I can't believe how much better this goes compared to the 1600 buses I've driven in the past. Brakes (servo'd), steering and gear change all really good and really is very nice to drive unlike some I've driven in the past. With the 2ltr engine it will easily keep up with modern traffic.

The bus has had a full re-spray inside and out and it really is as shiny on the inside as it is on the out. Lift up the carpets and you will only find sound deadening and solid shiny panels. New panels have been used where available e.g rear hatches, bumpers and rust free imports used for front doors. New rubbers scrapers etc... New tyres freshly painted wheels and shiny chrome hub caps.

Interior is ready for someone to put their mark on it. It has a RnR bed in it and carpeted cargo area. It has a new headlining and panels covered in a cream vinyl which makes for a very airy nice place to be. I have ordered a new set of foams for the bed which should have come last week but should be here this week. So knock up some covers and get some thermo mats/curtains and you're good to camp.

Downsides - it is missing 2 pieces of Tinware which I'm desperately trying to source having sent a couple of emails to 2 people who have hopefully got some (Parts Emporium (unfortunately has a sick wife so he is not readily available) and another contact from here (on holiday))

Anyway any questions just ask away PM or on this thread. Happy to give out my number for a chat if you PM me. This will probably go on Ebay fairly soon as I am keen to see it go to a new home so my wife stops pestering me about keeping this one and selling my prototype bay.

Price is £10k firm definitely will not accept anything less, looking at what else is out there I'd say it is worth more.

It will have 12 months MOT but will need Taxing.

I welcome people to come and have a look at this amazing bus I am in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

    Lots of pics HERE

i'm sure it will sell but i'd want pic's of the actual work done myself not just a shiny van that "could" be expanding foam and chicken wire.

  4. I know what you mean, I have had a good look around underneath and where new panels have been welded and they have been done properly not just welded over the top of old ones. Personally if I was looking to hand over £10k I'd get it checked over by someone who knows what they are looking at. Sadly no pics of the resto came with the bus but I did have a person who knows buses check it out before I even went to look at it.

Basically you need to come and look at this bus.. I'll try and get some more intimate photo's tonight and some video footage of underneath and behind the panels. I think to see the level of the spray job both inside and out this is no chicken wire job. I wish I had the number of the guy who did the work as it make my freshly painted prototype bay look awful.

  5. I'm actually drooling over this, right colour / model / condition (by the look of the pics) just whether I could find the cash...

What do you know about the engine? Is there any record of when it was installed or is it the original etc?

  6. I'm just checking over the MOT's and the oldest one dated Jan 1987 says it a 1970cc so I assume the engine has been in there from new. Also noticed that it was registered in January 1980 so proper late late bay.

    Just done a video

Uploading some more pics now. Engine has just been tuned today.... timing was a bit out, carbs a lot out and tappets needed some adjustment... sweet as a nut now :)

How is it that you have had this bus for 30 miles and almost no time, yet seem to know nothing about it's recent history. Surely anyone selling a recently restored van will have resto pics and anyone buying one would want them and know who did the resto.

I'm sure there's an innocent explanation but it strikes me as a bit odd.

  11. The guy I bought it off was really.. not sure how to put it but non descript about the bus it was like trying to get blood out of a stone for him to explain about the history. When I bought it he said assume the engine doesn't work yet the last time he drove it in 2008 he drove it into his garage post paint and then did the headlining and interior bits himself. I put a new battery on it drained the little fuel it had in it out put a new fuel filter on and some fuel and it fired up in seconds ! I've had the engine looked over today and tuned.. the plugs are all new you can barely see the oil on the dipstick it is sooo clean.. the bloke who tuned it said its one sweet engine !

The seller said the only paperwork he has is what he gave me.. which mainly consisted of old MOTs dating back to Jan 1987 and a couple of random receipts and MOT failure sheets. He had no pictures of resto (as you say odd) it did have a receipt dated May 1994 for the sum of £280 to buy the bus !!! crazy price (not him a previous owner). I have a list of SORN docs which are to his address dating back to 2006.

As I said the guy was a bit vague and upset to be selling I think. He did seem very genuine met his wife and kids and lived in a nice area. All the paperwork panned out to him and the address I bought it from and the quality of the bus spoke for itself to me. I had someone look at the van a week before I purchased it and I was taking a bit of a gamble on the engine and counted on having to bung a recon in which I found on ebay and lined the bloke who tuned it today to fit it alas not needed so happy days.

That about it really. I really encourage people to come and have a look/ drive and tell me this isn't the bus I am seeing and point out any issues. It has underbelly pans which I hate but it does all seem very solid under there.
