I've got my wiper switch on a stalk (double stalk layout) and the 4 wires from it are:
    Black
    Black/yellow
    Black/grey
    Black/green

Please would some kind soul confirm how these should be connected up and where to take a wire from to go to the fused live?
I've been going round in circles with it.
The wires from the motor are a brown to earth and 4 colours:
    Yellow
    Red
    Blue
    Green

Sorry to hijack! Is your cold air arm connected to the dash lever? If so could you grab a snap of it. I’ve not connected mine as it didn’t seem to fit properly. Not sure if I screwed something up.

Thanks mate. I can get the lever connected up but it seems to jam and there doesn’t seem to be any adjustment so a working pic would be great. Currently none of my levers are connected!

  5. Have got one or two blue levers? Later single ones should have a screw adjuster in the middle.

Found part of my answer on Samba and posting it here in case anyone else has need of it. Still don't know which wire to connect the 12v ignition fused feed to?

    Attached Files:

  7. The fast and slow windings should be driven via the wiper switch, so no direct feed. The other terminals are for the park switch.

I've sussed that Red is for hi speed ( :D:D:D ) and connects to Blk/Yell 53b and Green is for slow speed and connects to Blk 53.
The Blue and the Yellow are indeed the two for Park, one is 53a and connects to Blk/Grey and also has the live ign feed to it and the other is Green 53e (which I THINK is the same as 31b ).
Which is which? that's the bit I'm searching for now.

  9. You'd have to look at your proper wiring diagram, won't ya ;)? The wiper switch wiring is quite convoluted, esp on later Bays.

One of the additional connections is for the park switch pole (53e/31b), and one is for the normally open contact (53a). The park switch (as you know) keeps +12 going to the motor if you switch the wipers off in mid-travel, then disconnects when the wipers are in the parked position. From memory, it also shorts the motor windings out so the motor stops quickly.

I've forgotten what the question was now ;)...

Seriously though. Blue wire and yellow wire - which one is 53a and which is 31b. What will happen if I get them the wrong way round?

  15. Ah, see your problem.

Off the top of my head: stick your meter on ohms and check for continuity between the body of the wiper/ground and one or 'tother of the blue or yellow wires. The one that's zero ohms will be 53e/31b (normally closed contact on wiper motor mech). The wire that's open circuit will be 53a (normally open). That's if the motor's in the parked position. Alternatively, take the lid off and look at the contact positions.

If get them the wrong way round, you'll blow the wiper fuse, as there'll effectively be a short between the 12V and ground. See 16/17/18.

    Make sense?

Brilliant thank you Snotty. Yes that's a test I can handle and if it's just the fuse that'll blow if they're the wrong way round, that's great. And no I haven't got a clue how to read/use those new-fangled diagrams!

  17. Oh, come, come, intelligent fellow like you ;). They just split the electrics into functional areas. In at the top, out at the bottom. Much clearer than a plate of spaghetti...

I used to hate the new style but find them much easier now than the old having to follow the wire with the tip of a pen as they’re so small.
