It's amazing how many bits you find are missing when you go to put the giant jigsaw back together! Please can anybody help? 1. I have nothing from where the outer tube finishes, roughly level with gearshift coupling, to where the engine will be. Should there be an outer tube above the gearbox? Can I just make one out of some 8mm kunifer that I have left? I will be fitting the CSP bell crank I've bought and I gather some rerouting is needed for that anyway. Anyone done similar, all advice welcome. 2. What length is the gearbox earth strap - the bodged one I took off is about 18 inches, which I assume is too long? JK have one at 19.5cm which seems to short. Thanks all.
There should be a flexi section on the end of the conduit. The flexi has a bell mouth to capture the end of the engine throttle tube (on a type 1). Not convinced a solid tube would do the job, as it would have to accomodate movement of the engine.
1) Yes there should be a flexi tube that runs from the end of the pipe to the back of the engine. I bought one but it didn’t fit (too long). I still need to fit something there at some point! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was thinking that it would be as long as the gearbox and is really only a shield. If the tube finishes level with the join of the engine and box, the movement would be taken up by the length of inner cable between there and the bell crank? It's hard for me to visualise without the box and engine being present.
Hmm. Not convinced . The engine does wobble. Also, the cable goes around bends, which a flexi will accomodate. Have you got a type 1 or 4 engine.
Schofields have this one which also looks a bit short: https://alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_2448101-Gearbox-Earth-Strap-111971237A.html
I think my thing came off my spare box, so about 30cm seems right. Schofield don't say how long theirs is.
On a Type 4 the bell end guide, fnr fnr, that the flexi hose fits into is in the tin and has to be repositioned for the bell crank linkage. Fit the linkage and tin to the engine to see where the throttle cable should be before you fit the engine.
Perfect, thank you. Do you happen to have a pic of where the tube goes through the tinware? I know I'll need to drill it before fitting the engine but just to give me an idea.
Ah sorry no, ours is a type 1. I’m not sure how too long it was but it had a big ol curve in it meaning the cable wouldn’t reach. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm hoping that as I'm moving the linkage bit, i.e. the bell crank, nearer the front by about a foot or so, the inner will hopefully reach. Make sense? We will see
The stock type 1 flexi should be just about long enough to poke through the transmission hanger nicely.
what is this hanger of which you speak? Edit: Phew! It's OK I know where you mean now. Thought for a minute I was missing yet another bit.
