Henry - 1973 Bay Window Resto

  1. I’ve hacked the inner back off the o/s but if I line inner and centre up to the edge of the tab I end up with a S shape instead of the L shape you’ve got??

Plus on the sliding door side the cut out on the top of the inner sill for the floor profile seems to be about 10mm to far forward to line up with the old top of sliding door track on the middle sill.. could just be a bad pressing out of line but it almost feels like if I pull the inner sill back to the edge of the front inside of the top hat at weld the front of the middle sill to the tab it’ll fit

  2. Really enjoyed reading this. Seems like you are doing similar to me. I went back to Orient Blue, after testing out loads. Really pleased with it though. Lovley Colour. One side and the front done for this winter. Over the next year or two going to tackle the other side

The last one is now as it was last weekend after a long hard winter. Its worth it in the end, so good luck with the rest

Not sure mate. Any more pics. Just worry if you weld it in too far back you won’t get the rear arch closing panel on.

  4. Hi all, back again after what seems a lifetime of Henry sitting in the out building rusting away again..hopefully I’ll start making some progress now - my mate has upgraded his unit leaving the old one with spare room so I’m a happy boy now. [IMG][IMG]

  5. So after such a long break on Henry I’ve started to think better to just be brutal and start from back to front because the side panels overlap front back to front. Rear corners are pretty fubar’d but only the usual bottoms and battery trays. Rear valance is in need to chopping out so grinders at the ready

Going to try and flat the paint back up to the swag line and hopefully retain some of the old. The rear light section is pretty sound so hopefully I’ll be the same further up

The rollover jig is currently on long term loan to dubanddubber as I’m not ruling out doing another at some point.

  11. Been a good week all in all .. managed to start getting the back corners hacked out and found the bottom of the D posts were snot so going to grab a couple of new bottoms to graft in.[IMG]

Cutout the rest of the back corner as well so the new wing stands a chance of lining up

Thought I’d take a break from the back until the D repairs turned up but I’ve got the new inner balance and outer to go in so when the D’s are sorted out I’m going to look at making it removable so the engine drops out quicker.

  12. Bought 2 complete rear corner cut from a guy in Cornwall who said they were US import completely rust free. ‘Yeeeah...’ oh well they were only 80 quid each so I’m salvaging the bits I can and keeping as much old good metal as poss.

Managed to split the out from the frame and inner which was a challenge but I’ve ended up with a good n/s up to the swage line

  13. So break from the back means I’m having another look at the sliding door that has been a right git!! Managed to find a cut including the B and C so thought I attack it from a different angle .. I’ll post so inside ones later but the results are good so far[IMG][IMG]

Hi Adam, not sure which way to go yet, but your welcome to borrow it, its a bit rusty as the van is outside under the car port, but it works ok. It will break down into managable lengths prob longest is about 4'.
I have a bit of welding to finish and sand blast the engine bay and paint it, then finish it off in raptor and then i will drop it off the jig onto some axle stands, so it would be ready for you to pick up. Hopefully about 6 weeks whilst i have time off from school.

  20. inside the engine bay needs work to get all the rest of the under seal and old cack off. Starting to see it looking a bit smarter[IMG]
Need to just replace a couple of top chassis rail places where it’s bubbled through to the engine surround side skirts/toppers - worth taking them off at least because the chassis rails always rust though
