  1. Well, half way through and the usual mix of sulks and rows as is always the case when my eldest two sons are home at the same time.

It's like having Morrissey and Julian Assange here for the long weekend, but thankfully no cats......

Fitting new front panel on the van and trying to avoid doing much else. I did have to drive to chesterfield yesterday to get a table for the lad’s house, but that was in the T4 so quite pleasant.

Ha ha I know, you are exactly right!
I only built it 15 years ago because it was easier to do that than re-lay the patio .... I could build decking myself, but would’ve had to pay someone to do the patio job. It’s lasted okay so can’t complain, but it will get ripped up at the end of the summer or over winter: this is just a ‘make do and mend’ temporary fix so I can use it.
Might rebuild a bit of it as the brick barbecue etc would be 6 inches too high from ground level, but definitely not the whole thing. I guess I’ll have to address the patio issue finally too!

  7. The best way to clean decking is hot water with salt and a bit of washing up liquid the salt acts as an abrasive and a soft brush plus lots of elbow grease. Royal Navy trick.

  8. I learnt that at an early age and thus appear to be quite 'robust'

We lay it upsidedown in the UK apparently .... grooves should go underneath?! No more (multi-mini-waterslides then)

Decking planks also easier to lift for body stashing ....
    This is what I built.
Its on a 45 degree slope, so no slabs for us!

Picking off some small bits of jobs on the holiday let conversion (like the 18 inch strip of grouting left over when I ran out of the stuff) ... taking the bus to anywhere where there are lots of people milling about on the off chance that someone's looking for wedding transport (Waitrose, Berkeley Castle etc etc),
getting some basic screening for the bus at TE so I can practice my belly dancing routine in private .... The rest is more of a "see how it goes" kind of weekend :)

  17. Put up half a dozen Wickes Larchcrap fence panels. They’ve started warping already.

    Looks good!

Never had to hide a body yet, but there’s plenty of time. I think a patio would be better for it in the long run though :D

I quite like building stuff, so I’m not unhappy about taking it apart later and remaking it in a different form. Need to measure up and gradually acquire the new wood.

Slightly unfortunately the deck boards I used 15 years ago were 14cm wide and all I can get now is 12cm..... and as I really can’t be arsed to cut a 274cm piece lengthways to fill the gap for a what is a temporary fix, there’s gonna be a bit of a gap by the back door. Hey ho.
